Trying to win at all costs, the partners of the firm go into deep debt. The long trial eventually forces them to accept a settlement, but it barely covers the overwhelming expenses in trying the case. Reflection on "To Kill a Mocking Bird"
The movie "To Kill a Mocking Bird" revolves around two main characters, Atticus Finch
and a young Alabaman girl called Mayella Ewell. These are two people who face two
different types of discrimination based on the people they associate with in terms of race and
class. Atticus Finch is a reputable but mysterious young lawyer who is fond of associating
with the African Americans, while Mayella is a simple girl from a poor family of uneducated
man. The movie shows the difficult lives that the two had in trying to prove themselves to the
white community and the society at large (To Kill A Mockingbird (1962), 2016).
It is from a moral principle perspective that Finch wants to prove to his family the need to
do what is right and not what is easy. Although he is in a higher position of power, Finch
believes that he must behave in such a manner that the public sees him as an honest man, not
caring which race he is serving. Mayella, on the other hand, tries to live a better life than the
one his family is in. She wants to improve the cleanliness, from the repulsive dump, in her
home and be seen on a better perspective than that of her other family members. Both
characters have social ties that they care about in one way or the other depending on one's
interests (Palmer, 2008).
