The Florida Gang Investigators Association (FGIA) was started in 1993 to become a
professional organization for criminal justice professionals. It was formed to achieve the
goal of the intervention, prevention, and suppression of the activities of criminal gangs.
FGIA utilizes the National Gang Center’s strategic planning tool that clearly articulates

the planning and implementation of the criminal justice goals and objectives, the risk
factors that are involved, the risk factor matrix, the program matrix, and lastly, the
community resource inventory.

Strategic planning is fundamental to criminal justice organizations. Just as it is for any
other type of organization as this practice enforced strategic goals achievement and in
this case, the achievement of the set goals to combat gang criminal activities.

Relevant stakeholders and their roles

The Community: These involve both the youth and elderly members of the community.
They play the role of relaying information on existing gangs and how their activities can
be combated.

Criminal justice professionals and bodies in the community: Their role is to investigate
the possible ongoing criminal activities in the community and implement measures to
curb these activities.

Schools and organizations: Their role is to identify criminal gangs in their institutions and
act accordingly (by reporting them) to limit their activities.
