(Fast Company vs. Forbes)
Jeremy Pollacks of Fast Company proposes a four-step process that can be used in the
company to solve the conflict. This process, according to Pollack, is vital in ensuring conflict is
reduced within a workplace involving a group of people. The process can also be implemented in
disputes between employees and managers and also supervisors themselves. The acronym is
known as LEAD, which stands for Listen, Empathize, acknowledge (and apologize), and finally
doing something (Pollack, 2019). Listening involves confronting a problem head-on instead of
moving around it. Empathizing involves putting oneself in somebody else’s shoes, thereby being
able to think like them.
Acknowledge and reflecting involve being able to label, reflect and paraphrase. This is then
followed by one ability to validate other people’s feelings and admit where one has gone wrong.
Doing something involves taking a step beyond validating one’s feelings. This may include
