Answer:
1.
The redesign in the company aims at increasing the level of teamwork in the company.
Through this, the redesign directly impacts process gain and process loss on the teamwork process.
The teamwork process increases process gain and reduces process loss. Microsoft has redesigned the
building to ensure some of the barriers of teamwork are addressed. The company approach is also
important since it has provided small cozy alcoves and a focus room that assures privacy when
needed. The company also encourages the use of face-to-face communication, which is important in
the innovation process. Therefore, the company is able to increase synergy through teamwork and
increase employee performance. Some of the progress losses include loss of privacy, destruction, and
interruption from teammates. Thus, on process gain, employees can focus on assigned tasks and
share them with their colleagues. At the start of the case study, it was noted that an engineer on the
product team could discover a vital concept but fail to communicate it to the other unit since the units
were competing and there was no clear model of communication between units. Thus, the redesign is
important in enabling communication and helps employees connect despite working from different
departments.
2.
The changes at the company have positively influenced team states. Through the redesigned
building, 'neighborhood' employees can access each other. The changes also influence the policy of
face-to-face communication, which is critical in the sharing process. Email can, at times, be
insufficient in providing full detail about the topic of concern or an innovation. For example, an
employee might fail to open the email in time, or the information provided is not specific. Therefore,
several challenges are addressed by the redesigned strategy. Thus, the changes have helped
employees in the company to work together to accomplish various tasks. The case study states that
employees can also interact during the workplace or coffee break. Thus, the redesign has created
several channels through which employees can interact and share their ideas. Through interaction,
employees can also meet and learn from each other as they interact. Thus, the positive impact of
Microsoft's changes has influenced employees to improve performance by bringing team members
together and creating a sense of unity rather than competition.
3.
The redesign helps to make communication easier between workstations and departments.
Employees can communicate through daily engagement and also learn from one another. The
redesign also saves time since time wastage is limited when employees do not have to move from
one office to another since all employees are in the same area. Thus, the redesign can help reduce
employees' frustration during the day. Open offices also help in supervision. This is achieved since
all employees are in a centralized area. This makes communication channels more effective as a
supervisor does not need to track an employee from one office to another. Managers and superviso...
