Jacques Cartier was sent to explore by King Francis I of France. He explored and found the St. Lawrence River and gave Canada its name. There has no been anything say that he did not like or want to explore especially because he went back three times after coming back and the king was very impressed with his findings. He was sent to bring back spice, gold, and mainly a passage way to Asia but he did not do all of them. He explored first near Brazil but then ended around modern day Canada when he found the St. Lawrence River. Hope this helps if you need anything else let me know.
