Write a balanced equation for the combustion of nonane, C9H20, in oxygen, , forming the products carbon dioxide, and water, H2O. How many grams of water will be produced by the complete reaction of 8.90 grams of nonane?

C9H20 + 14O2===>9CO2 + 10H2O

The molar mass of C9H20=9x12+20x1=128 g/mol

So 8.90 g C9H20=8.90/128=0.0695 mol C9H20

1 mole of C9H20 can produce 10 moles of H2O,

so 0.0695 moles of C9H20 will produce 0.0695x10=0.695 moles of H2O

The molar mass of H2O is 18 g/mol.

So 0.695x18=12.5 g

THerefore 12.5 g water will be produced.
