Description
Every researcher has an obligation to plan and implement an ethically sound research project. Your doctoral research project must meet high standards for ethical conduct, particularly with respect to the treatment of human subjects participating in your study.

Ethics in Research
Ethical conduct in research requires a researcher to recognize their obligation to
implement a research project that is ethically sound. When conducting my doctoral research
project, I have to ensure that it meets the high standards of ethical conduct that are expected.
These standards are specific to the treatment of the human subjects that will be participating in
the study. It is vital for one to consider all the ethical principles and rules that are expected of
them before they begin undertaking their research project. Following the specific rules will be
vital in ensuring that the research is ethical. This paper seeks to provide an evaluation of three
ethical guidelines, including the Nuremberg Code, the "Common Rule," and the APA Ethical
Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.
Evaluation
The Nuremberg Code of 1947 sets out the ten standards that physicians are expected to
abide by when using human subjects to carry out experiments. The code requires the physicians
to obtain voluntary informed consent from the subjects that they intend to use for their
experiment (Merz, 2018). This is important in ensuring that a person’s right to decide what
happens to their body is protected from violation by people conducting research. The researchers
are expected to weigh the risk against the benefit and ensure that unnecessary suffering and pain
gets avoided, avoiding actions that cause injury to the human subjects. The “Common Rule”
refers to the Federal Policy for the protection of human participants in research. The Common
Rule applies to research that involves human participants (Menikoff et al., 2017). This rule
provides a description of the types of research subjects that are subject to the regulation. It sets
out the general requirements for informed consent, requires the researcher to provide a written
assurance that they will comply with the common rule, and provides a description of the specific
terms that apply in the context of the common rule, including minimal risk, human subject, and
research. It also sets out the requirements that a researcher has to meet to acquire membership to
the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of
Conduct sets out the principles that a researcher must abide by when condu...
