Just in Time (JIT) is an inventory technique where labor and raw materials to be
applied in the manufacturing process are scheduled to be received when required in the
production process. Lean Thinking is a mindset aiming to focus on removing waste and
improving consumer value. After the emergence of the two models, companies rushed to
adopt them due to several reasons.
JIT/Lean Thinking concept helped companies eliminate waste during production. In
the production context, companies experienced waste, including inventory, transportation,
overproduction, over-processing, defects, motion, and waiting. Firms spent resources on
activities that did not add value to the final products, and to eliminate these elements,
companies embraced the concept since it helped minimize waste.
JIT/Lean Thinking helped companies improve efficiency in the production process
translating to quality output. The concept helped reduce sources of defects and errors in the
