Mary Jane Seacole was a Jamaican born woman who was born to scottish and Creole parents. She served immensely as a nurse to the wounded during the crimean war between 1854 and 1856, she experimented with medicine and perfected her techniques and had tremendous success treating the soldiers. Florence Nightingale, widely considered to be the ,moher of nursong was a patron of Seacole's word and helped her any way she could. She did all this while furthering race relations and fighting discrimination for her skin color.
