Situated in the center of the brain, is a small, white, pinecone-like structure that secretes
serotonin, melatonin, and N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT). It is called the Pineal gland
(Wurtman & Axelrod, n.d.; Gheban et. al., 2019). Galen of Pergamon was the first person to
describe it as an independent organ. René Descartes described it as the “seat of the soul”
based on the anatomical descriptions of Andreas Vesalius Bruxellensis (Gheban et. al., 2019).
