Description

I need to give an opinion about the following discussion

1- Steve Jobs was a leader with great business qualities like intelligence, self-confidence, job-relevant knowledge, and the desire to lead. There are a couple of leadership theory's and styles that can be applied to the following discussion. One of the most fitting leadership style is the autocratic style. Steve job was mentioned to dictate work methods, make final decisions, and limit employee participation when it came to leading the company. Like mentioned in the video above, Steve jobs often showed people what they don't know. He was a Leader and had the belief that the company's fate lied on his shoulders and no one else was responsible for it but himself. Another behavior leadership theory that can be applied to Steve jobs is the concern for production. Steve jobs was not focused nor concerned for his employee's feelings, instead he was concerned for production. His scale for getting the job done was at a 10. He was focused and driven every day to make sure his company (Apple) created innovative products and were ahead in the technological market.

2- Steve jobs can be considered as an Authentic leader, he knows who he is, he believes in his ideas and he knows the direction where his company needs to go. Employees can look at this behavior and emulate them further motivating them to work. Steve jobs ability to be rough with his employees further pushed them to work hard and like mentioned in the video above "everybody tried to please him'. The motivation theory that best describes Steve Jobs is theory X from McGregor's theory. He humiliated people and drove his staff through a lot of obstacles to motivate them. I agree that he had to be rough to motivate his employees. For Steve Jobs to turn Apple into the number one smartphone and computing device company, he had to make sure that his employees were on top of their game. Even though his method can be controversial, it proved to be effective and successful.

3- If all else was equal, and Steve jobs was a woman, I think peoples responses to the leadership style would be the same. chapter 18 on leadership does not mention anything on Men or women. Leadership has to do with personality traits and behaviors so I think if Steve jobs was a woman it would not make a difference on what people think or respond.

4- There are a couple of lessons that I can take from Steve Jobs' leadership style. One of them is that there are a variety of ways you can be a leader. This teaches me that there isn't a be-all and end-all method on how to be a leader. For example, Steve jobs had an Autocratic style of leading. That does not mean that having a laissez-faire style of leadership wont work with other type of business endeavors. This shows me to keep an open mind in leadership styles and apply the right one when leading a group. Another lesson I learned is to stick with a leadership style that proves to be effective no matter the opinion of others. For example, Steve Jobs method had a good quantity of people that disagreed with it. Steve jobs continued with his method and in the end Apple became the Number one tech company.
