NURSING CARE
Initial post
During labor and birth, the pain that mothers go through calls for the implementation of
the right and most effective pain management strategy. A nurse may consider nonpharmacological interventions for managing pain or pharmacological pain management. The
non-pharmacological pain management techniques include imagery, breathing techniques, music
therapy, environmental modification and destructions. These methods create relaxation and
enable the mother to overcome labor pain (Whitburn et al., 2019). On the other hand, using
epidural anaesthesia is one of the most appropriate pharmacological pain management technique
during labour. In this method, a small catheter is placed on the lower back to offer continuous
anaesthesia. During childbirth, there are several types of medication offered to relieve pain. The
primary type, analgesics, lessen pain without the loss of muscle movement. This drug affects the
fetus since it can cause fetal-neonatal depression and, at times, impair breastfeeding. For the
anesthetics, their way of work is through blockings of most feelings, which includes pain. The
unregulated use of this drug can affect the fetus as it increases the chances of giving birth to an
underweight fetus.
Hydrotherapy is one of the nursing techniques that may be considered nonpharmacological (Young, Shipe & Smith, 2021). This method involves integrating a technique
that promotes warmth, pressure and the sound of water that offer relaxation. The effect of this
technique is the increased labour and reduced hypertension. The other method with an influence
during labor and childbirth is patterned breathing. The breathing technique offers the mother
comfort and additional focus in the laboring process. The other effect of this strategy is the
enhancement of oxygen flow to the baby.
Response post
Nursing interventions are, in most cases, meant to promote the quality of care and reduce
the complications that could influence the health provision approaches. The healthcare sector's
current changes have caused the implementation of nursing techniques that focus on the patients'
needs and promote their recovery rate by considering their needs. Focusing on patient-centred
care is the main competencies addressed by the QSEN. In patient-centred care, the nurses focus
on the proper measures to actively decide about the right treatment they believe to benefit them.
The nursing interventions used when offering these services to the patients align with the
patient-centred care competency. The patient takes part in decidi...
