Distraction comes in two varieties. One is consistent distraction and the other is inconsistent distraction. Each type has an impact on learning.
Neurologists Song and Bidard performed experiments that showed that everybody who had been distracted in both learning and recall performed better than those who were distracted while learning but undistracted during recall. This finding may help to improve rehabilitation of patients. Song believes that it may be better to help patients learn to walk not only in the clinic but during the walk on the neighborhood sidewalk which provides certain degree of distraction due to the surrounding noise.
