Common Law is the duty of healthcare professionals to protect the confidentiality and privacy of
their patients’ health records. They are also required to keep the patients informed of what is
going into their health records and who has access to the information. In relation to healthcare
policy, common law has a major impact on overall decisions. For instance, medical conditions
and treatments are noted in a patients chart and is reviewed when a patient is applying for health
