what is the vertex form of the equation?  y=-2x^2+8x-2

Dec 11th, 2014

y = -2x^2 + 8x - 2

x = -b/(2a) = -8/(2 * -2) = -8/-4 = 2

y = -2(2)^2 + 8(2) - 2 = -8 + 16 - 2 = 6

The vertex is at (h, k) = (2, 6)

The vertex form of the equation is y = a(x - h)^2 + k so y = -2(x - 2)^2 + 6

Answer:  The vertex form off the equation y = -2x^2 + 8x - 2 = -2(x - 2)^2 + 6
