Running Head: PROGRESS REPORT 3 1 Progress Report 3 March 21, 2021 PROGRESS REPORT 3 Introduction In the first week of the project, the team came up with the idea of developing a website (app) to help students access learning materials through charity. So far, the idea has shaped up and is close to coming to life. All team members have worked hard to make sure that their idea comes to fruition and benefit millions of students worldwide. So far, progress has been made in several areas as the team continues working on the programming and development phase. The following report explains the team's work, plans for the upcoming month, hours spent on the project, and lessons learned so far. Work Accomplished So far, the team has made tremendous progress in completing the project on time. In the first stage, milestones set to be achieved were developed and have been the basis for completing the project. Currently, the team is in the programming phase, challenging and fun to work on. The team has brought the website (app) to life through the phase, and seeing the project that has been in progress for months come to life is very satisfying. Previously, the team was conducting some tasks to complete the phase, including debugging the website and making sure that it was functional. In the previous progress report, the team provided processes currently being undertaken and what percentage of work was remaining to complete the entire project. The first activity that the team was carrying out was the Backend database (PostgreSQL) which was 80% complete with a remaining 20% set to be done. PostgreSQL communicates between the frontend and backend through the use of message-based protocols. In PostgreSQL, the frontend connects to the server and then sends a start-up packet which has the username and database they would like to access. The server then uses the information to determine any 2 PROGRESS REPORT 3 3 authentication information that the front end may require to send and respond to it. Once this is achieved, then the user can access the database they intend to through the frontend. This has been an essential part of the programming phase, and it is currently nearing completion. So far, 95% of the work is complete to ensure that this crucial component is completed before moving to the next phase. Secondly, the team was working on the firebase, another critical activity in the programming phase. Previously, 95% of the work was already done, with only 5% remaining. Firebase is a back-end-as-a-service platform through which user experiences are created. The aim was to create the best user experience possible to allow students and other users to enjoy using the website (app) and donate their material. Therefore, the process is nearly complete and awaits the completion of other activities to start the testing and debugging process. Therefore, this activity is almost ready depends on the completion of others before the team can determine the website's usability and whether it has the best user experiences that would be advantageous after the launch. Thirdly, the team worked on Python Programming with 80% of the work complete and only 20% remaining. Python is used in building server-side applications. Python programming is simple and ensures that team members can communicate when working on the same program. Due to this simplicity, the team managed to cover more ground and completed 90% of the work with only 10% remaining. The programming phase has been enjoyable and offered many learning experiences that can be transferred to other projects in the future. With this step almost complete, the programming phase is nearing completion and will be fully functional in the coming weeks. PROGRESS REPORT 3 4 Fourthly, the team was carrying out debugging activities for backend. The backend is one of the most critical parts of the website (app), and its functionality is significant. One of the approaches has been through visual studio code (VS Code), which has major features such as debugging, highlighting syntax, code refactoring, and intelligent code completion. Therefore, the process has helped ensure that the backend is functional and that there are no errors. The backend's debugging process is 80% complete and almost ready for use, which will ensure that one of the project's main components is completed and ready for use in no time. While the backend debugging was in progress, the team was also conducting frontend design which was previously 80% complete. With backend development almost coming to an end, it is critical to building the user side through which they will interact with the backend databases. They can access data and databases that contain information that they may desire. As such, the frontend development process is dependent on the backend, with the team designing the project to ensure that it meets the requirements that the backend may need. For this process, the team has managed to complete 85% of the design to enter the final phase and start developing the essential part. Therefore, it is just a matter of weeks before the frontend building starts pointing towards the project's completion since both backend and frontend will be ready for use signaling the beginning of the testing period. With the project nearing completion, the team understood the need to know how the application could be hosted in various services available. They may include Google's play store or the Apple Store, among others. However, there was a lack of knowledge on what was required to upload an application and maintain it in the future. As such, field research was required, and the team had accomplished 70% of the research, which included; identifying existing hosting services, charges, requirements, and challenges the group could face. The team is currently PROGRESS REPORT 3 5 focusing on understanding how requirements can be met and challenges alleviated before the project is ready for uploading. The following is a table that shows work that the team has accomplished in the past few weeks. Activity Accomplished Ongoing Backend Database 95% 5% Firebase 97% 3% Python (Programming) 90% 10% Backend (debugging) 80% 20% Frontend (design) 85% 15% Hosting Services 80% 20% (PostgreSQL) Research Ongoing Work Currently, the team is finalizing the programming phase and debugging different website components (app). So far, the team has been building the backend database (PostgreSQL), which is nearing completion. Therefore, the work should be done in the coming weeks and pave the way for beta testing. This will also be achieved when the team is done building the frontend database, which is still in the design phase. Once the designing stage is done, the team will immediately start building the database based on the designs that are completed during this period. PROGRESS REPORT 3 6 Moreover, the team is still carrying out python programming, which is expected to be complete soon. The backend database's debugging process is still ongoing, which will prepare the project for beta testing. Ultimately, the team is researching uploading the website (app) after completion. The research has covered many areas that the team needs to understand before progressing with the project and will be essential in the beta testing and launching phase. Total Hours Spent on the Project Every team member continues to dedicate their time to the timely completion of the project. The following table is a breakdown of the total hours spent on the project so far. The breakdown also involves the sharing of tasks between team members. Activity Total Hours Spent Debugging (ongoing) Student 1 and student 2 60+ Hours Database development 1 and 3 70 + Hours Website (App) Design Process 2 And 4 48+ Hours Programming (Ongoing) 2 and 3 70+ Hours Total Hours Group Meeting(discuss and apply) 248+ Hours All group member 2hr/per day PROGRESS REPORT 3 7 Plans for the Upcoming Month For the upcoming month, the team will finalize the development and programming phase and move on to the next step, beta testing. To achieve this, the team will focus on finishing the backend and frontend database building. These are integral components of the project, and once complete, they will pave the way for completion. Therefore, more programming and databasebuilding activities will be done during the upcoming month, with the team ever nearing the finishing line. The progress made so far is immense, and only a little bit more work is needed to see the project through. Contributions from the members are also great and will play a role in a successful completion. Furthermore, the team will continue debugging the backend and frontend databases which is a critical phase in ensuring that the website (app) works and that it's ready for testing. Also, more research will be carried out to understand what hosting services the team can use. The study will focus on the audience to determine which stores have the most significant number of our target audience to ensure that the right services host the website (app). Lessons Learned Since the team has been mostly coding over the past few weeks, many lessons have been learned. Building databases is an arduous task, one that the team has managed to handle with efficiency. For instance, building the Backend Database (PostgreSQL) has provided valuable lessons of how databases can improve user experience, a major component required for a successful website (app). Moreover, the team has learned a lot about the hosting services market, especially how different companies provide support for applications uploaded to their platforms. For instance, Google offers many platforms where developers can debug and improve their PROGRESS REPORT 3 8 applications before uploading. Such support information will be essential once the website is complete and the team is ready to launch it. So far, the team has not experienced major challenges as the project nears completion. Ultimately, the project continues to progress as expected. Team members have been supportive of the project and dedicate their time to ensuring that the project continues to develop smoothly. So far, most of the project's work is done, and only a few tasks remain and will be completed in the upcoming month before moving to the next phase. Moreover, the team continues picking up valuable skills that will come in handy in the future as members venture into their preferred areas in the diverse Information and Technology world.

Introduction
In our world today, there are a myriad of problems affecting people from different
demographics and societies. As such, it is up to us humans to find ways through which we can
alleviate these problems and improve the quality of life for thousands of people around the
world. In most cases, people have a better understanding of problems that are close to them or
they identify with and can easily solve such problems. Therefore, as students who also specialize
in website (app) building, it was easy to identify problems facing students and come up with an
approach that would help address these problems. During the first week, a team was formed with
the aim of identifying a problem which members could user their computer skills to solve. The
team brainstormed different ideas to identify issues that face students around the country. One of
the issues identified was the high cost of education which has affected how students learn due to
the financial burdens that students face due to high costs of learning materials.
To address this problem, team members determined that many former students still had
their materials in possession. These materials are wasted since they are not in use and the
students have no use for them. These same materials can be used by current students to learn and
save thousands of dollars which can be spend in other areas. Furthermore, the team identified
many similar organizations that set out to help students across the world through different
programs such as the issuing of grants to students. According to research such organizations
were effective and made it easy for students to learn since financial burdens and other hurdles
that affected them were removed. By using the same approach, the team could create a system
that helped thousands of students and made the learning experience more affordable and
enjoyable.

To achieve this goal, the team moved to identify the best approach that could be used to
achieve this goal. The team decided to build a website (app) that would allow former students to
donate their materials to students who would benefit from using them. The charitable action was
seen as the perfect approach since it will be easy to access and affordable to thousands of
students from across the country. Such a website will allow former students to donate their
materials and current students access them through the website. Interactions between the two
groups would also be made possible through hosting events and other programs that would
improve how materials are accessed online. With this decision made, it was time to build a
website that could achieve all identified parameters and become operational as soon as possible.
The team set to out to execute the plan using principles that guide the development of
website (app) so as to ensure that this plan comes to fruition. The website (app) will be
developed in different phases before it comes to life. Each and every team member will have
their own functions that they will execute so that the program can be launched within the
required time limit. Once this is achieved, it will be possible to achieve the team’s goal of
helping thousands of students across the country. The program follows all principles of website
building so as to match its peers in terms of operability and security which are important features
of any modern application. Through this approach, the charitable website will provide maximum
benefits to students who choose to use it so as to further their education and reap the benefits that
education could bring to their futures.
Conclusion
Over the past few months, the project team has dedicated a lot of time and resources into
building a website (app) that can achieve its set goals. The team identified a problem they
believed affected many students across the country and sought to address it through an

innovative approach. As such, the building of a website (app) was considered as the best option
to ensure that the team achieved this goal. Over the past months, the team developed a strategy
that will ensure that the project was completed in time. The team created milestones that were
followed thoroughly and addressed different components of the website. The milestones include;
planning, design, content writing and assembly, beta testing, and launch. In the planning
milestone, the team identified milestones that would be followed and identified timelines for
project completion. The design phase included creating an outlook of the website (app) which
will act as a guide towards the completion of the process. Content writing and assembly involves
collecting necessary information that will be published in the blog and also information about
similar innovations. Beta testing involves testing the application and conducting debugging
which would ensure that the website was operation before it was finally launched.
Work associated with the building of the website (app) progressed smoothly with the
team facing some problems, which were solved. Some of the challenges were; creating a scalable
product, identifying security threats and developing the right security measures, creating a user
friendly design, choosing the right frameworks and platforms, and creating a high-performance
website. However, these challenges were addressed through the use of teamwork which was an
essential component throughout the project. Teamwork means that every member is committed
to the project and carries out various tasks such as research for information which can then easily
be used in the development of the website. Teamwork allows for all members to share their
insights, knowledge and skills which are valuable in addressing any major challenges or
problems that may face during the period.
Furthermore, another challenging area was the coding phase where the team had to create
the front and back end of the website (app). The front ...
