The United States has witnessed an evolution in its ethnic and racial structure in the
last few decades. During the 20th century, a predominantly white population has evolved and
is now rooted in several racial and ethnic minorities. At the start of the 20th century, most of
the United States population were white people making up about 87 percent (Healey &
Stepnick, 2019). The south marked the breeding ground for the existing non-white minority
who were primarily the black community. In recent years, the minority population has
consisted mainly of black Americans, Hispanics, a small grow of Indians, and Asians. The
number of Asians in America is believed to be gradually increasing. About less than 75
percent of the population in America is now made up of non-Hispanic whites (Pollard, 2021).
