1. “Iron Man” Comic Book and Character Archetypes Approach Iron man is a superhero from America who possesses powers that come from the suit he wears (Hughes pg. 2). The suit is described as high-tech of armor which is advanced. In this comic book, Tony Stark is the invisible man who is fighting for justice. Tony stark portrays the advanced superior weapons of the U.S. military by suffering threatening injuries in an ambush from the enemy. He attends a function and when gets back, the gangs attacks his party being led by Wong Chu who is the owner of a camp. Tony then decides to go for revenge as Iron Man tearing apart the camp. After that he returns to U.S. with the help of marine forces from U.S. Iron Man series follows the Character Archetypes Approach to Literature. Character Archetypes Approach is portrayed by the typical character who is the Iron man. In the beginning, the Iron Man is drawn to a beautiful lady by the name Whitney who is the daughter of Count Nefaria. Iron Man admires the girl which from the series it depicts a “change of heart”. The lady is then treated very well by the Iron Man. However, she seeks to steal the inventions of the Iron Man. Life Model Decoys (LMDs) uses the suit of Iron Man while Iron Man is away to run the business believing that he is more superior. When the Iron Man gets back, he attacks the LMDs by using his original armor, but in the process he suffers another heart attack. He is then rushed to the hospital. Kathleen Dare shoots Iron Man where his body gets installed by a biochip to foster mobility. DeWitt hears about issue of installation and decides to hijack the biochip in order to take control of Iron Man’s nervous system. Iron Man cannot move at the moment even though he has regained his body since it was severely damaged (Hughes pg. 6). Iron Man from then uses his armor to survive. As soon as he defeats the Mandarin, he expresses his regret to Captain America for their bad relationship. As the health of the Iron Man continues to deteriorate, he succumbs to the total nervous system failure, and as a result he dies on an operating table. The Rhodes becomes the head of the Stark enterprises. Iron Man rebuilt his entire body nervous system by undergoing physical therapy. Rhodes is then responsible for keeping the armor. After the bad treatment of Iron Man, he chooses to start a new beginning, a life without a companion. He also goes against lies and secrecy. Later, he secretly decides to use global mind device of Mentallo to interfere with the all knowledge of his secrecy. Finally, he reveals all the information to the people he trusts making them to remember the memories he have destroyed. Works Cited Hughes, Ted. The iron man. Faber & Faber, 2011. 2. “Korra” Comic Book and Character Archetypes Approach Korra is a girl from the Southern Water tribe and takes after Avatar who is known for bending four elements. Korra is seen to bend three elements at a much tender and is discovered by the Order of the White Lotus who embark on the journey to aid her in mastering her skill set. Unlike other Avatars, she was had a problem with her spiritual side and could not access her predecessors. Since Korra is featured as a protagonist in the animated TV series The Legend of Korra, which follows the sequence of Avatar: The Last Airbender. As most characters are influenced by Asian cultures in this series, so is Korra. She was designed with a more rushed attitude and fierce approach as compared to the previous incarnation, Aang. Being a female protagonist has not only opened doors for comics featuring the same gender hence cutting short the fear that most viewers would not be impressed with the female gender being a lead character. In the series, she not only masters the four elements but is also turns into a formidable hand-to-hand combatant with the ability to create large walls of ice and push back enormous size of opponents (Yang and Heisler pg. 3) With regards to archetypes, Korra is observed to be heart-introverted though. This explains the size of her inner circle. The ability to manipulate the four elements also counts here. As such, she is able to launch herself into the air and create a gigantic waterspout that can be used to fight off aerial attacks. She is considered highly efficient when controlling nature or communicating with animals. Works Cited Yang, Gene L, and Michael Heisler. Avatar, the Last Airbender: Part One., 2016. Print. 3. “Moon Knight”#3 and Character Archetypes Approach In Moon Knight #3 Mark Spector leads an asylum breakout. The character archetype approach in this comic book is revealed by typical characters who are; Greg, Khonshu, Jeff, Marc, Declan, Warren Gena and Dr.Emmet. Greg Smallwood and Jeff Lemire maintain uncertainty of Marc being insane or whether he just believes he is. At one moment the orderlies and the doctor feel innocent as the sinister does the same in following moments. Are they the good people or the bad person as it is being seen by Marc? It even causes a division between Marc's friends. Gena's words show that it is hard to doubt what she sees. Her remarks tend to be dry. A mental split is even built when Dr.Emmet is given the head of Ammut while the clothing and body are of a lady. Some humor is depicted when Anubis is made a subway driver from traditionally being psych pomp. For all the trappings in the plot, the issue is nearly illogically simple; Marc and the friends make it in crossing the walls of the asylum institution. They move from point to point, what establishes menace and meaning to the brief journey, however, it occurs in Mark's head. The two completely different realities' uncertainty proves to be so disorienting. A feeling of unease arises that stimulates the action and suspense. The big question is finally addressed by Lemire, but it is not resolved or tabled, depending on how the reader understands or takes. Khonshu takes it like the two realities can be valid, but Marc believes that he will not be driven wrongly by his instincts. The art from Smallwood manages in melding Ancient Egypt and New York subway system, hence making the two realities convincing (Jeff Lemire pg. 3). A high note of dramatic tension is maintained on each page. The panel borders are absent, giving the Krack sound even more effect on its impact. The groups in the first double-page spread occur like plates that are shifting right, and this brings a sense of inevitability about it like it is falling towards the outline of the curves of Dr.Emmet in the centerfold bottom. Declan Shalvey and Warren Ellis' successful run on Moon Knight is like an action film that is fast paced and has supernatural features and a detective fiction. Marc Spector's role in the world is depicted as less steady and slower, scarier and more of a dreamer. A more substantial impression is created only from three issues. Works Cited Jeff Lemire. Moon Knight. Marvel publisher. (2016 #3) 4. “Shrek 2” Comic Book and Intertextuality Approach Shrek 2 is a comic book that gives a story about two ogres who fell in love at first meeting. They decide to go for a vacation. After returning from their vacation, Fiona can read from her parents that she has actually found her true love (Beck pg. 2). They pay a visit to a kingdom far away which takes them days to arrive. It is later realized that Fiona has married an ogre who is very gruesome. In this comic book, there are many examples of intertextuality approach portrayed throughout the book. Firstly, the use of Disney character spoofs cross referencing of two texts such as the mirror which is placed on the wall seems to have originated from Snow White. The mirror portrays a sense of humor as it is used to show the princess. It gives a sense of reminisce to us viewers. Second, the meeting of the cat and donkey in the forest is another example of intertextuality approach. Additionally, for a younger audience, the use of a character Shrek Cat is seen as a thief in the play and we get antihero who helps the cat and the donkey. This also depicts another example of intertextuality approach (Beck pg. 3). They were able to use an old text to get the new one. The Prince on the other side turns out to be a bad guy while his mother who was seen as a good mother in the beginning becomes shocking. In the end of the play, we find that the ogre princess loves the ogre prince while the Prince Charming is left out with no appropriate girl of choice to marry. This love story gives the play a happy ending. Work Cited Beck, Jerry. The animated movie guide. Chicago Review Press, 2005. 5. “Spider Man” Comic Book and Social Identity Theory Approach Miles acts as the Spider-Man in the New Marvel Universe. In the beginning we have Miles arriving at the scene of a battle. The Avengers, the son of Mephisto, is standing victorious. Blackheart orders Miles to run for his life. The Spider-Man returns home to continue with his normal life (Eugster and Friedrich pg. 1). Peter originally wants to construct a prison which will rehabilitate superhuman criminals, but such plans are cut short when parker industries are attacked by the corporate criminal Ghost. The Spider-Man is able to defeat the Ghost but Parker Industries burns to the ground. In the beginning, Peter Parker originally uses his powers to make money and he is portrayed as shy and timid. The spider-man acts as a form of heroism as he gains confidence later in the play. He turns out to be sarcastic. He is driven by a powerful moral urge that is strong which makes him stop working for the Pro-Registration side. Additionally, he also has a very compassionate disposition in the most compassionate in the Marvel Universe. Spider-man is well known for his humor which irritates his enemies and hence in many cases winning the fight. Moreover, the possession of these qualities makes him one of the most trustworthy, good people to hang out with. Spider-man is in love at the beginning with a black cat, but they end up breaking. He is not able to bear the situation. She meets Mary June who have come to visit peter and is almost returning back to New York. Spider-Man weds Mary Jane which portrays a character of love. Spider man comic book uses the social identity theory approach. At the beginning, Spider Man categorizes himself as an Avenger. Green Goblin swears after a series of defeats at the hands of Spider-Man to destroy his foe. With a help of special gas, he blocks the sense of the spider man then follows Peter to know exactly about the secret identity he is keeping. In return, he kidnaps him thinking he is Peter, but later turns out to the Spider-Man. He reveals his secret identity instead. Spider-Man is then released by Harry’s father, Norman Osborn (Eugster and Friedrich pg. 1). In the second stage of social identification, Spider Man identifies himself as a villain. Spider man and the other villain’s heroes are transported by Beyonder. They are expected to take part in secret wars against battle world. Spider-Man’s suit is damaged during the war and calls for Peter to do the replacement. In the final stage of social comparison, Spider Man and the other villains compares themselves with other super-heroics. In the play, Peter retires from super-heroics after the death of Harry. Spider-Man teamed up with his old foe Venom again goes to fight in severe war against Carnage and his team in New York. Later, they are able to stop team and emerge as super heroes. Works Cited Eugster, Manuel, and Friedrich Leisch. "From spider-man to hero-archetypal analysis in R." (2009): 1. 6. “Watchmen” Comic Book and Intertextuality Approach Watchmen start off with some sicko named Rorschach in 1985 where two detectives are involved in investigating the murder of Edward Blake but sweep the case under the rug. However, a redheaded doomsayer in his 40s sweeps Edward’s house and uncovers a closet with weaponry, patriotic costumes and an old photo of a superhero crew. The Comedian is introduced, among other superheroes like Dr. Manhattan and Miss Jupiter who are briefed on the series of death on their crew but ignore the threat until they are attacked and the old squad has to regroup and strategize to deal with now, the Comedian’s killer (Liddo and Moore pg. 55). With regards to intertextuality, Watchmen Alan Moore is said to be the mastermind behind the literary influence in the comic having come from Britain in the 80s. He was able to inject new blood into the moribund DC comics by bringing in new characters like Floronic Man, the Demon and more. In addition, Moore was also able to realize new elements from Ditko and Mr. A who are considered short-lived characters with binary pursuit for justice that left them no room for violence in the Watchmen. These two characters are seen to form the foundation of Rorschach, who is the main character in Watchmen (Liddo and Moore pg. 56) Works Cited Di, Liddo A.
