Wk 5 - Signature Assignment: Impact of a Social Issue

Assignment Content

You don’t have to think too hard or look too long to realize that no matter the culture, there is an abundance of social issues present. It is important to understand the social issues people face and realize there may be cultural differences. Sometimes it’s not apparent what is impacting individuals because their background may be unknown at the time of your encounter. It’s likely the social issue has affected their psychology. It is wise to take time to understand the whole person, including the social issues that have influenced them.

Research a social issue that has an impact on diverse populations.

undefined

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you:

    • Describe the social issue.
    • Identify diverse populations the social issue impacts.
    • Explain the impact the social issue has on diverse populations.
    • Explain how the issue affects the psychology of diverse populations.

Cite a minimum of two sources.

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

Submit your assignment.

Instructor Notes:

This is a signature assignment. It is an expository paper where you are providing legitimate academically-based information. This is not about you, or your opinions or experiences.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you:

undefined
    • Identify and Describe the ONE social issue you chose (consider using https://www.ranker.com/list/social-issues-in-ameri... to find a social issue of interest).
    • Identify diverse populations the social issue impacts (not just one population you are interested in, but several diverse populations should be identified)
    • Explain the impact the social issue has on diverse populations (again, several should be identified and the impact explained).
    • Explain how the issue affects the psychology of diverse populations (again, several should be identified and the affects explained; actually use psychological definitions and terms to discuss the affect).

Cite a minimum of two sources, not including your text (these sources should be peer-reviewed, academic sources, or government websites).

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines. You do not need an abstract. Your headers should be: Introduction, Description of Social Issue, Diverse Populations the Social Issue Impacts, Impact of Social Issue on Diverse Populations, Issue Impact on the Psychology of Diverse Populations, Conclusion, and References.

The essay I completed is attached. The instructor said it was great information but it is not the info that I was supposed to be talking about. She said the course is on diversity and I didn't talk about Latino, Caucasians, African Americans or youth, elderly etc. I could have talked about how they were impacted by climate change and I did not.

Running Head: CLIMATE CHANGE 1 Social Issue: Climate Change Students' Name Institution Date 2 CLIMATE CHANGE Climate Change In our current world, climate change is one of the most challenging social issues affecting the world at large. Climate change is defined as the changes that take place in the climate conditions. These changes include changes being seen in rain patterns, thus resulting in the disruption to food production. Some of the results of climate change include changes in the global scope. Climate change should be looked into with critical insights because without being handled well, so much will be lost, and much of the world's production will be destroyed, thus creating a more complex and costly world (Yorkshire International Thomson Multimedia Limited. Interactive Learning Productions. Yorkshire Television. & International Centre for Conservation Education. 2018). Identify diverse populations the climate change impacts. Over the years, climate changes have been affecting the world in various aspects, as seen below. However, these impacts seen from climate changes are negative aspects that should be solved with immediate effect. Climate changes cause a rise in temperatures which is a challenging change in the environment. When not handled well, it could result in less food production because with high rising temperatures in the atmosphere, no crops will grow. Also, the number of greenhouse gasses will increase in its productivity. (Wong, 2019) The first impact seen in the diverse population is the effect of the rising sea level. This impact has been a subject in the past and is still a subject of discussion in the world's current climate changes. Scientists have stated that in the coming years, sea levels will increase; this has also been proven by some rising in water levels seen in the coastal regions. Greenhouse gases are risky to human beings because they contribute to global warming by releasing carbon dioxide and water vapor. These gasses allow in energy received from the sun through the ground, but delay CLIMATE CHANGE 3 energy from entering the earth. These gasses obtained from the greenhouse absorb ultraviolet radiation that helps in trapping heat from the atmosphere, thus enhancing the natural greenhouse effect defined as global warming, therefore encouraging the enabled life (Wong, 2019). This energy is then directly concentrated by short waved waves containing radians from solar travels down to the earth's atmosphere. Some of its radiants are then taken back into space by the clouds by absorption of radiant on the earth's surface in global warming (Wong, 2019). Impact of climate change on a diverse population Climate has created some changes in diversity, and these impacts are, however, two-sided because they have affected diversity both positively and negatively. Climate change has affected diversity positively in that it has created the introduction of different species of vegetation that were not existing previously, thus creating variety. With time nature happens to adapt to the environment and brings good coexistence (Exploration Production Inc. & Cerebellum Corporation, 2019). However, climate change has created adverse effects on the diverse population, and these effects bring in the issue of global warming that is significantly affecting human beings around the globe. Global warming has affected the environment by interchanging and interfering with the environment and how the atmosphere works (Exploration Production Inc. & Cerebellum Corporation, 2019). Climate change has also created adverse effects on the population's diversity because it is with these effects that problems such as drought and famine have been experienced today. Many families are suffering from drought and famine, with many of their family members losing their lives due to not having enough food (Exploration Production Inc. & Cerebellum Corporation, 2019). How Climate change affects the psychology of diverse population CLIMATE CHANGE 4 Climate change also affects the psychology of diverse populations by creating and resulting in stress and emotional effects associated with natural and technological disasters. In addition, it is creating mentally related issues similar to technological disasters. Having to differentiate between normal and pathological worry regarding climate change is also one of the effects of a diverse population's psychology (Yorkshire International Thomson Multimedia Limited. Interactive Learning Productions. Yorkshire Television. & International Centre for Conservation Education. 2018) Lessons learned from hurricane Katrina can also not be forgotten while dealing with climate change and how it has affected diverse populations' psychology. In Hurricane Katrina, so many people lost their lives, and a good number of people were injured. This proves that, with the current cases of tragedies that have become so rampant over the recent years, the introduction of secondary and primary response teams that always look into rescuing the situation is critical (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Cambridge Scholars Publishing. Smith, 2017). Conclusion In conclusion, climate change has and is still causing effects on both the population and diversity. Therefore, it should be looked into with urgency, and the issues related to it be treated to avoid and reduce these issues. 5 CLIMATE CHANGE Reference Exploration Production Inc., & Cerebellum Corporation.
