Memo To: Senior Management From: Bhency San Jose Date: January 14, 2017 Re: Leadership Training Program Purpose: To teach leadership the essential skills and techniques on how to value employees and make them feel as a part of the team. Problem: Often times, leadership tend to forget how to make their employees matter. Sometimes, leaders forget how to demonstrate that their employees are “people” and part of the team and not just “workers.” According to Comaford (2013), when employees feel that do not matter their performance goes down and that makes the organization suffers. In addition to that, when employees feel insignificant they go back to the fight/flight/freeze or what Comaford calls “Critter State.” Comaford (2013) stated that when employees go to this state they all their innovation and collaboration skills fall by the wayside and every decision boils down to a single question: What will keep me safe right now? (pg. 8) For example, failing to respond to your employees email. Employees will not come across their minds that their boss might be busy as of the moment instead, they will thing that their boss does not care about them and they will feel rejected. Solution: Leaders must know how to create interaction with their employees, not just when you need them to do some work for you, but as saying “how are you doing today” or “hi” and “hello.” If you are able do this for your employees they will think that you care about them and their well-being, and not just you needed something from them. Also, hosting employee-focused events such as social outings or employee-of-the-year banquets provides recreation and camaraderie for your employees. Finally, recognizing your employees hard work, talents, and expertise by either promoting them a higher position or delegating a coveted assignment to them will make them feel valued. Outcomes: Employees who are valued by their superiors or leaders that means that you have given them the approval and respect, good working conditions, and access to information and other resources to carry out their job. If employees feel valued they are most likely to committed, and that means, employees perform better at their jobs, are absent less frequently, and less likely to quit their jobs. In other words, if employees are happy productivity increases and profit will rise as well. 2 References Mathew, R. (n.d.). Small Business - Chron.com. A table that presents the costs in an at-a-glance format is effective for that audience who want to get a general idea of the cost at this point is recommended.
