paper 1: "All Animals are Equal" by Peter Singer and paper 2: "The Case for Animal Rights" by Tom Regan. I am writing on a position paper how Singer has better reasons than Regan.
Singer's reasons for more compassionate treatment of animals are:
1. They are sentient beings like humans
2. They can feel pain (like humans)
3. If we mistreat animals then this reflects badly on humans since we consider ourselves to be on a higher moral plane
Regan only offers the reason that every living non-human animal has an intrinsic value similsr to a human. Since we would not allow a human to suffer needlessly, the same applies to animals.
