Malcolm's family may be "rude, loud, and gross, and have no shame whatsoever" but with them Malcolm feels like he always know where he stands and when he has a problem they are there for him. I agree with this statement because being real and true to who you are is much more important than being a phony and getting what you want. The family that Malcolm babysat for turned out to be phonies which prompted Malcolm to come to this epiphany that his family is "awful but real." I would much rather be a part of a family that is always there for me and supportive of what I do rather than being vindictive and going behind each others' backs. My reaction to this is that Malcolm is right, his family is awful but real, and is much better to have as compared to a family that keeps secrets ultimately leading to disappointment.
