The media is now very influential because of the increased connectivity that the
internet and other information technologies offer. Therefore, the different sources impact the
understanding of people about drugs and other matters. People should expect changes in how
news is presented and how social media, just like other media will participate in the
discussions concerning drugs and drug abuse. It is therefore important for the various
stakeholders to understand how they can use different media forms to contribute to solving
the issue of drug abuse.
According to Montagne (2011a) and Montagne (2011b), the media plays important
role in how people view drugs and their abuse. According to the author, the media has
contributed to the issue through wrong depictions of the issue and depicting characters in
