GCU Food Choices in Areas with Consistent Behavioral Differences Analysis
In public health, data are often gathered from separate groups in order to describe health-related behavior for a topic of interest. In practice, a larger sample is often surveyed, and then focus groups or interviews can be conducted with a smaller subset of the sample. The quantitative survey data from a larger group helps to identify health-related trends and patterns within the sample group. The qualitative data collected with the smaller group complements the quantitative survey data and helps to determine why and how a phenomenon exists. The cumulative findings can then help public health professionals form a conclusion about the health issue and inform future public health research, policy, and practice.
The purpose of this assignment is to analyze qualitative and quantitative data from two separate groups, propose a research question, and then disseminate your findings in a mixed-methods manuscript. The survey and focus group are both on the topic of nutrition. The quantitative data is adapted from the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS), and the qualitative data is from a focus group transcript in which 9th grade girls discussed healthy eating.
For this assignment, you will use:
IBM SPSS Statistics and the "Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System Dataset" to conduct a basic quantitative statistical analysis.
The "9th Grade Girls Healthy Food Focus Group Transcription" to conduct a qualitative analysis and identify key themes.
Part 1: Analyzing Data
Using the resources indicated above, conduct the following analyses and record the results on the "Results and Outputs" template. Attach this document as an Appendix in your paper.
Qualitative Analysis: Read the "9th Grade Girls Healthy Food Focus Group Transcription." This transcript is from a focus group of 9th grade girls discussing healthy eating with the moderator. Generate codes and summarize the qualitative data.
Quantitative Analysis:
Review the "Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System Dataset." Identify two or three variables of interest and identify a study topic for your paper. Conduct a literature search for three to five peer-reviewed articles from the last 5 years that have studies supporting your topic. Develop a research question for your study based on the selected variables. The research question should demonstrate support for the focus group results and should be supported by existing literature.
Prepare the data to complete the analysis based on your research question.
Using SPSS, conduct descriptive statistics to summarize the sample.
Using SPSS, select an appropriate quantitative inferential statistical test to analyze the data.
Part 2: Reporting Data
Prepare a 1,250-1,500 word manuscript to disseminate the findings of your proposed study. The study should be based on your proposed research question and supported by the findings from the qualitative and quantitative analyses above, as well as by current literature. Include the following:
Abstract
A 150-250 word summary of the manuscript.
Introduction
Summarize the purpose of the research, the problem being addressed, and your proposed research question.
Support your summary using three to five peer-reviewed articles from the last 5 years that are relevant to your topic and that support why the study is being conducted.
Methods
Qualitative Methods (Focus Group)
Describe the focus group sample and data collection process.
Describe the process used to analyze the qualitative data.
Quantitative Methods (YRBSS Survey)
Discuss how the data were collected.
Identify and describe the variables used in the analysis.
Describe the descriptive and inferential statistical tests that were conducted.
Identify the software that was used to conduct the analysis.
Results
Qualitative Results (Focus Group)
Summarize the results of the qualitative analysis from the "9th Grade Girls Healthy Food Focus Group Transcription."
Quantitative Results (YRBSS Survey)
Summarize the sample using the results of the descriptive statistics.
Describe the main outcomes of the inferential statistical analysis.
Include at least one table or figure to support the results.
Discussion
Interpret the study results in relation to the related literature and study purpose.
Discuss the study limitations.
Based on the interpreted results of the study, provide recommendations for future public health research, policy, or practice.
Appendix
"Results and Outputs" analysis document.

MIS445 R Project for Statistical Computing Assignment
R is a free statistical software that is frequently and widely used. Go to R-Project for Statistical Computing (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. to download the R software to your computer (follow the instructions provided in the attached R Installation Instructions sheet). The R Project website (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. provides a brief introduction to R that you may also want to review. Like SAS, R is code-driven software that provides computation and graphics easily. This means that you need to write code in order to obtain the results. In this CT assignment, you will write code to find the probabilities. Some R example code to find the probabilities under specific distributions are given in Section 1.11 of zyBooks. For each problem, write an R code to compute each probability.(a) Binomial Distribution: X ~ Bin(10, 0.7) (i) P(X = 2) (ii) P(X < 2) (iii) P(X > 2) (iv) P(1 < X < 7)(b) Normal Distribution: X ~ N(0, 4). Note that variance is 4 and, hence, the standard deviation is 2. (i) P(X < 3) (ii) P(X > 3) (iii) P(1 < X < 3)(c) Choose either (a) or (b) and interpret the results in a real-life scenario. Make sure to define X and interpret each probability. For parts (a) and (b), take screenshots of R codes and the answers. Copy and paste the screenshot(s) into a Word document and submit the Word file in Canvas.

Descriptive statistics
Please answer the following questions: If you were given a large data set (i.e., sales over the last year of our top 100 customers), what might you be able to do with these data? What might be the benefits of describing the data? This is an example post the professor posted, just to have an idea what professor wants:Example Post:We have to look at the different groups of costumers that buy our products. We can select and divide these groups into categories, for example:What percentage of this data are males? What percentage of this data are females? What percentage are young customers? What percentage of females’ vs males buying certain products? What is the tendency of young buyers? What are the ages of the different costumers?Which locations have the most sales? What are the buying behaviors the costumers have? What costumers buy more frequently? What is the frequency in which costumers buy? What are the ages of the different costumers? What is the product that sells the most? What is the frequency of that particular product being bought by each gender? What are the geographies of the different groups of costumers, by knowing this the company can map potential customers, identifying costumer concentration.By having the knowledge of a particular scenario one can focus his or her products based on what is being sought after. We can organize and describe this data and make a frequency distribution table in which, the costumer’s age can placed in groups or classes determining the frequency; For example, how many costumers from ages 10 to 20 years do we have? How often they buy a product? What kind of products they buy? What is the age group with more frequency of buying certain products? Therefore, allowing the company to canalize its products to specific ages. Another way to organize and visualize this data is to draw a histogram in which the X- axis, is the different age’s groups and the Y- axis is the frequency; this will help the company to find the average age in this data (mean). Through this histogram data vary (range) can be determined. All of this information will aid the company in marketing its products more efficiently. By graphical analysis the company can determine the number of classes, estimate the frequency of the class with the least frequency, and estimate the frequency of the class with the greatest frequency. Having all these information will help the company to measure the data and at the same time visualize the future of its market. Also the organization of this data allows the analyzer to see if specific products sell better at certain times of the year. We can focus which items these 100 customers are not buying, this is important and helpful when deciding the par level of these items. Another way is to use a frequency chart divided in 12 classes equivalent to the months of the year. In this case, the frequency is the number of purchases for each month. If I plotted this data into a histogram I can show the highest months for profit. This is a good way to visualize in order to make easier comparisons. I can use a stem-and-leaf plot to look at the amount of money spent in the entire year. For example, if $411 is the lowest amount spent and $1250 is the highest amount spent, the stem values could range from 4 to 12. By create the plot, we list these stems to the left of a vertical line (Larson & Farber, 2015). This can show any patterns in the amounts of money my top customers spent. Another way is to select a random sample of my top customers and put together a dot plot for the products they bought, this way to see which products are the top sellers; this will be very helpful to increase my sales. To decide future inventory selection, it will be important to collect data pertinent to dates of the purchases, which items were purchase and the quantity of each product.
