Various accounts exist on what the Aztecs, led by Montezuma, thought of the Spaniards,
led by Cortes. The different accounts have a strong implication on the interpretations of the
relationship between Montezuma and Cortes. Montezuma was the ninth Tenochtitlan ruler. His
most famous story is the dramatic confrontation with the Spaniards through their leader, Cortes.
One of the first theories that surround this story is that since Cortes arrived at a time when the
