Planning Your Quality Improvement Team Meeting
The organizational chart of my facility is grouped in accordance to the similarity of
duties. The service is headed by the board of management followed by the administration which
comprises of the CEO, vice president, and other executive leaders. From the management, the
organizational chart flows to the managers of the various departments. These managers are the
staff that is significantly and closely associated with quality. The managers handle the following
departments; information services, therapeutic services, diagnostic services and support services.
The manager that handles the information services department manages the admissions, medical
records, billing, health education and Human Resources. The therapeutic services manager
administers the treatment services to patients through departments such as physical therapy,
occupational therapy, social services and pharmacy (Pannun, 2008). The diagnostic services
manager handles the management of determination of illnesses or injuries through the
department of emergency medicine, medical laboratory and medical imaging. Finally, the
support services manager manages the administration of support services to the entire facility
through the departments of housekeeping and maintenance, central supply, dietary and
biomedical technology.
The members of the interdisciplinary team will come from the four important
departments of our facility; information services, therapeutic services, diagnostic services and
support services. The team members of the interdisciplinary team will be the managers of these
four departments. The reason for choosing these members is due to the fact that they handle the
relevant sectors of the facility whose cooperation in ensuring quality is likely to result in the
overall quality of the establishment. These four departments also have an impact on the patients
that the facility serves in some way (Grange, 2008). This means that having members from these

departments into the interdisciplinary team will ensure that various skills and expertise from the
different areas will enhance the success of the team.
Risks associated with interdisciplinary teams and how to address them
The most common risks that are likely to be related to the interdisciplinary team are a lack of
dedication and lack of cooperation. The lack of commitment is likely to set in if some of the
team members feel that the team is not accomplishing anything useful. Their lack of interest is
likely to undermine the effectiveness of the team (Cima, Clarke & Joint Commission Resources,
2012). This can be solved by ensuring that no one on the team is treated as unimportant or
ignored. The lack of cooperation occurs due to internal conflicts among the teammates hence
resulting in a competition. This can be solved by ensuring that the internal conflicts are
addressed and resolved as well as showing the advantage of collaboration.
What the team should review before the meeting
Before a meeting, the team should examine various elements including the ground rules for the
team so as to ensure that the team members knows in advance of what general behavior is
expected of them. This should include attendance, promptness, confidentiality, accountability
and participation. The communication process, as well as the decision-making process, should
also be reviewed in advance so as to ensure that every member is equipped with information on
how the team will run (Grange, 2008). Finally, the administrative roles should be assigned.
SMART goal to achieve the team's buy-in and outline of the meeting agenda
The interdisciplinary team can have both short term and long term goals. The goals that
the multidisciplinary team can achieve vary with the setting that the group operates in such as
home care or inpatient (Pannun, 2008). The goals of this interdisciplinary team will include;
increase patients' satisfaction in the facility, improve the functioning of the patients, enhance the

wellbeing of the patients, reducing the use of hospital services and reduction of the healthcare
costs.
Brief agenda for the team’s meeting
The program of the meeting will include the topics to be discussed in the meeting. The topics
will be; how to maintain maximal independence of the patient, how to reduce the use of hospital
services, how to enhance the well-being of patients, how to improve the satisfaction of patients,
how to reduce the costs of healthcare and finally, any other relevant business (Cima, Clarke &
Joint Commission Resources, 2012). The time allocated for each topic of discussion will be 15
minutes.
How the effectiveness of the meeting will be assessed
Various elements will be used to determine the effectiveness of the meeting. First, the
ability to discuss all the topics on the agenda within the allotted time will show the meeting's
effectiveness. Second, excellent communication and collaboration will be a sign of the efficiency
of the meeting. Finally, coming up with useful suggestions and ideas towards the topics
discussed will be a sign of an effective meeting (Grange, 2008).
