The firm has a single location with 20 employees and is currently running a small Windows Server 2012 network that includes a single domain controller. The firm is interested in upgrading to Windows Server 2016. The firm is also concerned about high availability. For example, there is currently only one domain controller. This means that when they perform updates or must reboot the server, Active Directory services are interrupted.

To avoid this, the firm is interested in adding a second domain controller to the current environment as soon as possible. Once the second domain controller is added, all other Servers must be upgraded to Windows Server 2016. This includes a DHCP, DNS, and file resource server. Redundancy, high availability, and disaster recovery have become a top concern for the firm.

The network will have a total of 3 servers, a server for file, web, and others that includes

active directory (AD), DNS, and DHCP. AD/DNS/DHCP server will be installed with 150 GB
SSD and it will have 2 CPUs. Due to the increased roles from the other side, a minimum of 4GB
ram will be used to ensure the servers runs smoothly. The webserver must be on a different
server. You may not want the webserver to disrupt the network; this will affect the time in terms
of restarts and downtime for services and nodes. Based on the file sizes and specifications, the
file server will be on a separate server. Since you're going to merge a system, you'll likely like to
place your various positions on it, such as WSUS, WDS, and Print Server. this server role will be
installed in virtual machines (Krause, 2016).

Windows edition

Standard and Datacenter editions will be deployed based on server roles. One data center
will be used for the AD, DNS, and DHCP server. Both file and web server will use standard
editions of windows server 2016. Since the datacenter allows unlimited instances of Windows
servers, it is utilized for the virtualization of the printer, WSUS, and WDS servers when the need
arises. Standard editions licenses are a bit cheaper than datacenter editions. Installing a web
server on a separate physical server optimizes network efficiency. All virtualization will be done
on datacenter editions since it can support unlimited instances of windows servers.

The server core will be used in a standard edition that supports the file server and WSUS
server. it will limit the chances of cyber threats and save some server resources such as memory

usage and CPU consumption. AD, DNS, and DHCP, file, and WSUS server will be located on
the main site while the webserver will be located on the new site.
