Planning for the Stadium
The football club of Los Angeles was the principal developer of the recently built Banc
of California Stadium. The $274 million sporting facility project is an elite open-air stadium with
an international status in Los Angeles. Designed by Gensler, the soccer stadium has a capacity of
22,000 seats surrounded by state-of-the-art 100,000 sq. ft. business structures space. The
amenities open all year round include conference space, restaurants, shops, a globally recognized
soccer museum, and a public plaza (California Construction News staff writer, 2017). The
stadium's planning was done and designed to rest at the old space of Los Angeles Memorial
Sports Arena.
Planning Duration
The 22,000-seat exquisite open-air stadium idea birth was reported on the Los Angeles
Times copy of May 17, 2015. Sitting on the MLS Exposition Park, the project was approved by
the Los Angeles City Council Leadership in May 2016. The preliminary milestone of the project
was the first notable step towards realizing the momentous sports development project (Levin,
2018). On August 23, 2016, the groundbreaking ceremony was done, bringing together
philanthropists and construction crews behind the project. During the ceremony, naming rights
spanning over 15 years were announced, and the Banc of California was the successful bidder.
After the groundbreaking ceremony, demolition of the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena was
initiated, and by October that year, everything was leveled for the new project to take shape. The
stadium was opened for use and sporting activities on April 18, 2018. The project was one of the

best in recent history with a planning and implementation duration that does not exceed half a
decade.
Significant Blockades in the Banc Stadium Project
One of the notable hindrances to the project was highlighted during public hearing
testimony. Conducted at the City Hall on November 7, 2017, around 25 people attended the
hearing. One of the public participants expressed concerns over the uncertainty they faced on
potential demolitions of their homes (City Planning Commission, 2019). The blockade was
missed during the process of planning. This issue raised eyebrows, and the proposed project
proponents were faced with a hard time assuring the citizens of their safety, and they will remain
undisrupted by the project.
Delayed legal documentation process seemed to derail the process pushing the project to
slightly lag behind the schedule by a couple of months. Even though the authorities take a grace
period to interrogate the suitability and economic viability of the project, legal documentations
from the LA municipal authorities were cumbersome yet worth the cost of time and delay.
Meeting the regulations of the construction’s ...
