Description

The Green New Deal (GND) is a proposed package of United States legislation that aims to address climate change and economic inequality. The name refers back to the New Deal, a set of social and economic reforms and public works projects undertaken by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in response to the Great Depression. The Green New Deal combines Roosevelt's economic approach with modern ideas such as renewable energy and resource efficiency.

In the 116th United States Congress, it is a pair of resolutions, House Resolution 109 and S. Res. 59, sponsored by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA). On March 25, 2019, Markey's resolution failed to advance in the U.S. Senate in a margin of 0–57, with most Senate Democrats voting "present" in protest of an early vote called by Republicans. There is consistently high support among Democrats for the proposal, whereas almost all Republicans are in opposition.

Your assignment is too: Print it, Read it, Research it, Annotate it and then write a 5 page paper on it it. What does it mean? How much is it going to cost? What is the intangible cost? This is a report, you do need to cite your sources. I would like it typed, double spaced, and font to be Helvetica or Ariel with 12pt font.

There will be an open discussion board for this topic, as part of the assignment. You are assigned to make no fewer than three initial postings and respond to no fewer than 5 of your classmates postings or comments. I expect intellectual, spirited, meaningful engagement. Use this as part of formulation for your paper.

This is a large part of what America is going to choose or not choose in a couple months. Some of you are going to participate in it and some will not.

What does this mean for the environment and what does it mean for you and all aspects of life in America: food, recreation, transportation, housing etc..

Global warming and climate change pose a great universal danger to human life and the
sustainability of the current production methods. The effects of global warming are evident in the
rising of sea levels, unprecedented droughts, and severe storms (116th Congress, 2018).
Economists predict that If global warming persists, more than $ 500 billion of annual economic
output will be lost by 2100. There will also be mass migration in areas hard-hit by the climatic
change. Human activity is the single most leading factor of global warming. Through activities
such as industrialization and deforestation, humans have contributed to the increase in the levels
of carbon emission to the atmosphere. Therefore, through the alteration of how humans operate,
the current trend of devastating events would be reversed. Policies that govern human activities
are needed to ensure that the planet is protected from the adverse effects of climate change
Apart from global warming and climatic changes, the United States is also facing other
related crises such as a decline in life expectancy due to inadequate healthcare and other basic
needs such as quality food and affordable housing (116th Congress, 2018). Also, wages are
stagnating, and there is an erosion of earning and bargaining power of most U.S. workers.
Income inequality is still rife since 1920, with only 1 percent of the U.S. population accruing
most of the gains after the great recession. Furthermore, there is still a significant racial divide
between different races in the United States, and gender parity is still a pipe dream.
The Green New Deal
The GND was a resolution by Congress to address two issues. One is combatting the
issue of climate change. The GND was proposed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Edward J
Markey to reduce U.S. reliance on non-renewable energy and to minimize carbon emissions by a
significant proportion. In its plan to combat climatic change, the green new deal sets zero net
