Discuss the politics of manifest destiny and the rationale for "manifest destiny" in the 1830's and 1840's. What were the issues and who were the winners and losers?

Nov 23rd, 2014

The idea of Manifest Destiny was the dream of Americans to stretch their territory from the Pacific ocean to the Atlantic ocean, or as said in America The Beautiful, from "Sea to shining Sea." In the process to accomplish this, Americans purchased land, such as in the Louisiana Purchase which nearly doubled the size of the colonies. However to do this they had to have the land explored, and thus happened The Louis and Clark Expedition. During which they were assisted by the native living Indians who were later driven out violently as in The Trail of Tears so Americans could move west. There was the Texas Annexation which made Texas the 28th state of America, which led to the Mexican-American War, which was won and awarded America Texas, California, and all the land in between.
