Leadership refers to the act of leading people or an organization. It entails the process of
persuading and influencing others to do something or to act is a certain way. Unlike managers who
are more concerned with maintaining the status quo, leaders are more concerned with
transformation and embracing change. Quality leadership entails the ability of a person to
motivate, influence, and enable others to contribute towards the success, growth, and effectiveness
of a group or an organization.
The following are some of the characteristics of quality and effective leaders;

Balanced commitment
Commitment refers to a dedication and devotion to a particular cause, organization, or

belief, and a willingness to get involved. An effective leader is one who is dedicated and committed
to achieving group’s goals and objectives. Such leader will influence the other group members to
act in a strategic manner to ensure that the group and organization’s goals are met. Leaders who
engage in pull and push as far as dedication is concerned are regarded as balanced leaders.
Balanced commitment entails a leader who is dedicated to achieving the organization’s goals, at
the same time the goals of individual group members (Goetsch, Davis, 2014).
