Determine the Molarity of a 200 mL solution of 100g NaCl

Oct 22nd, 2017

Molarity = moles / Liters

you have 200 mL which is 0.2 L

To find moles for NaCl:

moles = mass / molar mass.

Molar mass for NaCl is 23 g/mol + 35.5 g/mol = 58.5 g/mol

Thus,  moles = 100 g/ 58.5 g/mol = 1.71 moles

As a final step, Molarity = moles/ L =1.71 moles/ 0.2 L = 8.55 M

Good Luck!
