Introduction
Every family has their fair share of joys, sorrows, happiness and quarrels. Everywhere
two or more people interact there is bound to be some level of drama at some points. People have
different personalities, even within families. They are entitled to their opinions and choices. In
the book “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker, the issue of family drama is clearly explored. This
paper seeks to analyze the family drama in the book critically.
Favoritism of parents
It is not a proper thing when a parent plays favorites with their children. However, the
fact is that there is always that one child a parent prefers or protects more than others. From the
narrator, Dee, probably believes that their mother prefers Maggie. When Dee asks to take some
of the quilts that her grandma and Aunt (the narrator's sister) had made. The narrator is very
quick to deny the quilts...
