Briefly explain what problems and benefits there might be for AI replacement of Police Officers. 3 Section 5 The BC 1000 (The “BodyCam 1000”) Assume the following facts: An average of 50 law enforcement personnel die each year from felonious gunfire (traffic stops, scene investigations, service of warrants). The BodyCam 1000, warn on the shirt of the officer, detects motion and biometrics from a ‘person of interest’, indicating if they are about to attack the Officer moments before they do. The algorithm inside the BC 1000 has been highly accurate in field testing over the last 5 years. The units gathered data from over 4,000 incidents during the test period but were not allowed to alert. When activated, if 99% certain, the BC1000 alerts the officer, and with this fraction of a second warning, the Officer can employ defensive force and try to neutralize the ‘person of interest’. It is estimated that each year 40 Officer lives Nationwide can be saved using the device. With the high accuracy rate, only 1 out of 100 ‘persons of interest’ would not be about to use lethal force against the officer. Currently, the Police are wrong 5 out of 100 times when assuming the person of interest is attacking them. You are on the City Council and must vote to authorize use of the BC1000. 1.
