Ashford University Prince of Egypt and Hebrew Bible Discussion Questions
I have parts to do with responding to 2 studentsFirst partQuestion 1-I have asked you to view the supplemental materials on origins of Ancient Israel. The first is a video trailer for the animated movie The Prince of Egypt. It follows the Biblical story of the Exodus and the Israelites being led out of Egypt by Moses. The second supplemental piece is an article that describes a different origin of the Ancient Israelites. The two pieces are meant to be viewed/read in contrast to one another. How do the two presentations of Israel’s origin compare to one another? What are the main differences? Per the lecture notes on the role of the academic study of religion, which piece (the video or the article) seems to represent the academic approach? Why is the religious/faith approach different than the academic approach? That is, why is the biblical story an essential aspect of Jewish faith?Second partQuestion 2-After reading the section in the book and in the lecture on the Holocaust, and after watching the videos from Elie Wiesel, please explain the positions different Jewish groups take on God in reaction to the Holocaust. Given the history of the ancient Hebrews and Israelites explained in the reading, why did/do some Jews believe that the Holocaust was a punishment from God? That is, what is it about the events of their past, and their religious understanding of their covenant with God that would make this a plausible explanation?

Your active participation in discussion
threads is critical to the development of your understanding of the main
concepts studied in this unit. Further, posting detailed responses allows your
professor to guide your thinking and your classmates to respond to your ideas.
Please participate as early in the week as possible, and be sure to share your
thoughts and ideas as often as you can throughout the unit.
Respond to the threads below. Your
original response should be at least 350 words and should reflect the fact that
you have completed the assigned readings for the week. Remember, this is your
chance to illustrate not only your understanding, but also your mastery of the
materials for the unit. Use your words wisely so the posting has substance and
includes examples and explanations. Limit the use of direct quotes, and do your
best to critically evaluate and synthesize the literature in your own words
wherever possible. Make sure to include in-text citations and a reference list
as appropriate.
In this unit’s discussions, we will work
to integrate developmental theory to practice by exploring typical adolescent
development and the issues faced by them.
Discussion 1 of 2 at
least 350 words
Prior to adolescence, children at the end
of their middle childhood usually feel confident about their abilities to
control their bodies. They have mastered walking, running, skipping, and toilet
training. As this confidence grows, pre-adolescents prior to experiencing growth
spurts report feeling satisfied with their body images. Once puberty begins,
many adolescents report feeling awkward and even betrayed by their bodies.
Suddenly, new sensations and physical challenges are present as their bodies
act and grow without warning.
Using your understanding of developmental
theories, respond to the following questions.
During
puberty, biological changes transform the adolescent body and mind. Using
your understanding of Erikson’s psychosocial development theory, predict
some of the identity problems that adolescents might have as a result of
these changes.Using
Piaget’s cognitive development theory, explain the changes in adolescent
thinking from middle childhood. How would this affect their problem
solving strategies and predictions of consequences?Invent some
ways to use imaginary audience and personal fable as clinical or
educational interventions. How can these two types of irrational beliefs
be used to help change the adolescent’s world perspective? Discussion 2 of 2 at
least 350 words
Read the scenario below and use your
understanding of adolescent social, cultural, and cognitive development to
respond to the questions. Try to evaluate the main problem in the scenario and
then use any of the theories or concepts from your reading to support your
response.
Scenario: Manny
You work as a psychologist in a substance
abuse agency and treat adolescents who are alcoholics. Your new client, Manny,
is a fourteen-year- old, Hispanic male who lives with his grandmother in a
two-room apartment in a poor section of the city. He is physically small for
his age and seems to struggle with academic skills (he is functionally
illiterate according to the intake assessor). When asked why he drinks, he
simply looks at his shoes and shrugs. In fact, he really does not provide much
information about anything, which you know is typical of most adolescents. You
have noticed that he does become animated when you ask about his grandmother,
music, and cars. He was arrested for public drunkenness and assigned to your
outpatient treatment program as part of his rehabilitation.
In this session, he finally tells you
more about himself and his troubles. He tells you that he has not attended his
classes at the high school (he is a freshman) in over two weeks. Now, he is
afraid to return, because he thinks that he will be in trouble and that they
may not allow him to return. He says that he realizes that getting an education
will help him to leave his neighborhood someday for a better life. He wants to
know what to do.
Given what
you know about adolescent development, assess Manny’s main problems.
Predict which of the problems might worsen without proper intervention and
support your ideas using the concepts/theories from our readings.Create a
short dialogue of what you would say to Manny to help him to identify his
real problem. Then, guide him towards understanding what the real problem
for him is, focusing on how his biological development might be
interfering with his social development

CTC The Rise of the Italian Renaissance in the 1500s Research Paper
Western Civilization I Requirements A core writing assignment for this course is a Research Paper (1200-1500 words). The essay should support a thesis statement with information gained from research or investigation. The paper will not be just a report presenting information but will be a paper that carefully examines and presents your own historical interpretation of the topic you have chosen and your interpretation of the information you have gathered. It may include consideration of problems and solutions. It may define key terms. It will be important to choose a topic of interest to you and to an academic audience. Approach this assignment with an open and skeptical mind, a willingness to look at all sides of an issue and then form an opinion based on what you have discovered. You must suspend belief while you are investigating and let the discoveries shape your opinion. (This is a thesis-finding approach.) Once you have found your thesis, write the paper to support it.You will use some of the following critical thinking skills in this process:1. Choosing an appropriate topic, limiting the topic - a common mistake is to choose a topic that is too large for this length of paper. For example, if you wanted to choose “religion” as a topic, it would then be necessary to narrow that topic down by isolating a specific religion, period of time, an issue associated with it, or some key aspect that could serve as a focused topic for this length of paper.2. Gathering information, summarizing sources3. Analyzing and evaluating sources4. Defining key terms5. Synthesizing information6. Amassing support for a position7. Documenting sourcesBecause this may be a longer essay than you have written before and a complex process is involved, do this paper in the following steps:1. Choose a topic related to Western Civilization to approx. 1500 that you would truly like to explore and that you are willing to spend some time on. This should be a focused topic. Pose a question that you really want to answer. You may want to begin with more than one topic in mind.2. Do some preliminary reading on the topic(s). Explore the information available. Refine your topic. Summarize your topic, your interest in the topic, the questions you want to answer, and a hypothesis you want to test.3. Gather information from both primary and secondary sources (personal testimonies, interviews, official documents, books, articles, film, websites). Use a minimum of four sources for your paper, and at least one must be a primary source (a source contemporary to the topic—primary sources are embedded throughout our textbook). NOTE: do NOT use the textbook as one of your sources.4. Outline the results of your research and the plan for your essay.5. Write the final draft, with a Works Cited List, using correct MLA documentation style.http://writing.wisc.edu/Handbook/DocMLA.htmlThe paper should be uploaded via the assignment link below. The due date for this paper is by the end of Lesson 8. If it is not completed prior to the end of the term you will lose one grade level on the paper. Be sure to read and understand the Scholastic Dishonesty policy, which may be accessed by the link in the course menu. Every paper that is submitted is run against a database of books, articles, internet information and other student papers from all over the US and other sources. The instructor will see a percent of matches to other work, so do not cut and paste your whole paper - it will show when graded. Give credit where an author is quoted. Please do not write your paper by cut and paste. The SafeAssign database will show the percent that you have copied, and if it is high, it will be obvious that the paper contains the work of someone else who has published or submitted a paper that is in the system.Western Civilization II Requirements A core writing assignment for this course is a Research Paper (1200-1500 words).
