HCAD 670 Healthcare Administration Discussion 3 Questions
1. Leadership skills
a. Take How Good Are Your Leadership Skills Quiz. Share with your peers what
specific skills you need to improve or develop to become a stronger leader. Make sure
to support the comparison of your skills to the required one for a healthcare leader
using the content resources.
I scored good in the test, 62 points out of 90, reaching the lower tier of the good skilled
leaders. However, while I have some areas with very high scores, like nine out of ten, there are
others that are on the opposite side of the scale, such as two out of ten.
My good side involves the skills needed to be a good transformational leader. I can
provide a compelling vision of the future adequately. My score is seven out of ten. According to
Mindtools content team (n.d.), it means that I can inspire my followers with my vision of the
future because I certainly have enough knowledge about the field of expertise to create a
compelling story. Closely related to the previous skill, my score in “Motivating people to deliver
the vision” is nine out of ten. Besides of creating a compelling vision, I need to be able to
motivate people to follow the vision and transform it into reality. According to Mindtools
content team (n.d.), I have the skills needed to sell my idea and convince my team to follow my
leadership, while linking the performance of the team to team goals. That involves decisiveness,
which includes skills related to:
•
Problem-solving
•
Initiative
•
Research
•
Evaluation
•
Expectation setting (Indeed Editorial Teem, 2021)
Another expected skill that any good leader must have regarding how he is capable of
creating a vision an compel his followers to create it are dependability and relationship building
skills (Indeed Editorial Teem, 2021).
All the rest of the Transformational leader skills got nine out of ten; hence, there is little
to none to add to them. While my transformational leader skills are good, my personal skills are
very low. Emotional intelligence has the best score from the personal skills part of the test, with
five out of ten. Self-confidence scored three out of ten, and positive outlook scored only two out
of ten (Mindtools content team, n.d.). There is no place where the leader can claim as their
absolute kingdom. The whole team in involved in the achievement of the goals. However, when
the leader lacks self-confidence, the team cannot follow him, because they will sense his lack of
confidence, his internal turmoil. According to Axelrod (2017), “self-confidence plays a role in
every aspect of a leader’s thoughts, feelings, behavior, relationships, and job performance,
through an internal psychological mechanism called self-leadership” (page 300). Team members
have the tendency to avoid uncertainty, which is “the propensity of employees to avoid uncertain
or ambiguous situations due to feelings of uneasiness” (Afsar & Masood, 2018).
Transformational leadership needs that the followers have full trust in their leader, which would
be hinder if the leader has no self-confidence, positive outlook and emotional intelligence.

Preparation, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery, discuss ...
