Alexander was confident that he was going to win and was using rhetorical persuasive techniques - "Are you afraid of the FEW natives..." He also believed that he would be able to conquer the land with little effort because he claims that the natives are likely to capitulate or run away. Furthermore, he was interested in sharing the assets he gained in war and not take it all for himself as shown by his quote, 'We make a present of it to those who have joined us." He basically appreciated those who had fought on his side voluntarily - i.e. he valued free choice and not coercion in war.
