The degree of motivation displayed by the employees of any organization is significantly
dependent on the forms of reward system that are used by that particular organization. It is evident
that the current tough economic times have made it difficult for employers to increase the pay of
their employees regardless of whether or not profits are being made (Armstrong & Taylor, 2014).
Increasing pay would mean a subsequent increase in the costs of operating the business, which
may lead to the business failing to achieve its most important objective, profit. For this reason,
several human resource professionals have devised other compensation methods that have been
proven to maintain employee motivation thus keeping them engaged and motivated to continue
working for the organization. Managing a good reward system is paramount to managing the
