Myocardial infarction (MI) happens where insufficient blood flow or absence of oxygen
harms the heart muscle. The focus of the woman’s nutritional history and assessment should be
on her food diary, also known as a food journal. DeBusk et al. (1994) cite that this is a
mechanism for assessing nutrient intake within which an individual records food, beverage and
supplement intake within a given duration (p. 721-725). DeBusk et al. further asserts that the
food journal is beneficial since it tends to be more accurate because the patient can record the
food and beverages consumed immediately (p. 726). Also, the focus of her nutritional assessment
should be based on a food frequency questionnaire. This is also a mechanism for assessing
nutrient intake where “an individual uses a checklist to record their consumption of specific
types of foods” (p. 727).
Given her health condition, marital status and working full-time, the dietary
recommendation for the woman would comprise of taking whole foods and a primarily
vegetarian diet, comprising mainly of seeds, fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts and whole grains
