3 sisters got weighed. gina weighed twice as much as emma. Annie weighed 5 more pounds than emma. Together they weighed 205 pounds. how much did each sister weigh?

Oct 18th, 2017

Hey there! Let's start out by naming emma "x", since her two sisters are compared to her weight.

Gina weights twice as much as emma "x", so gina=2x

And annie weighs five more pounds, so annie= x+5

All together, they weight 205, meaning that when you add all their weights, they will weigh 205 pounds.

So (x+5)+2x+x=205

-5       -5

So, emma weights 50 pounds.

To find the weight of the other sisters, we will just use the equations we wrote before.

Annie=55 pounds

Gina=100 pounds

Check work: do they all add up to 205? YES!
