The traditional predictors use the procedures, for instance, interviews, which are designed
to predict the performance of future jobs based on the respondent’s oral response to inquiries.
The merits of this method include:
They are significant in determining whether the applicant possesses the vital social or
communicative skills which might be critical to the job. Here, during the interview, the
interviewer is able to assess the confidence level, audibility, ego, eye contact, respect, facial
expressions, and others. Furthermore, traditional predictors determine applicant’s job knowledge
quickly. It is through us questions on the various activities which are done in different sectors of
the job. Lastly, the method is more flexible in that it allows the process to be modified as
required to correct accurate information that is essential (Arthur, 2012).
The demerits include the fact that decisions happen to be made of initial stages of the
interviewing with the remainder of the process being used to confirm and justify the original
decision made. The second drawback is that from the definition, traditional predictors are only
used in predicting the applicant’s future performance at work. It does not a guarantee that the
applicant who performs impressively in the interview will similarly perform well at work. The
