Phenol is a very weak acid, by reason of its having the hydroxyl ion attached to the hydrocarbon.
Nevertheless it has sufficient acidity to make it have sufficiently recognizable acidic properties.
Its hydrogen ion from the –OH group, can break away from the group and transfer to a base.
Since the phenoxide ion formed is to some extent stabilized, phenol can lose a hydrogen ion
