(This is a thesis-finding approach.)Once you have found your thesis, write the paper to support it.You will use some of the following critical thinking skills in this process:Choosing an appropriate topic, limiting the topicGathering information, summarizing sourcesAnalyzing and evaluating sourcesDefining key termsSynthesizing information, comparing and contrasting sourcesTesting a thesis, making a historical argument, using refutationAmassing support for a positionDocumenting sourcesBecause this may be a longer paper than you have written before and a complex process is involved, it is recommended that you complete this paper using the following steps:Choose a topic related to U.S. History up to 1877 (Chapters 1-15) that you would truly like to explore and that you are willing to spend some time on. Your chosen topic should be focused. Pose a question that you really want to answer. You may want to begin with more than one topic in mind.Do some preliminary reading on the topic(s). You may begin with the textbook, then further explore the information available. Refine your topic. Summarize your topic, your interest in the topic, the questions you want to answer, and a hypothesis you want to test.Gather information from a variety of sources. Use a minimum of four sources for your paper, and at least one must be a primary source.Examples of primary sources are ones that are used in our discussion forums 2 - 8.They are sources that are contemporary to the times under investigation. An example of a secondary source is our textbook, though the textbook also contains excerpts of primary sources, which you may use as a source in your paper.Outline the results of your research and the plan for your paper (you are not required to submit the outline).Write the final draft and be sure to include a Works Cited List, and use the correct MLA documentation style.Grade RubricINTRODUCTION & THESIS: The paper makes a clear and effective statement (the thesis) about the chosen topic. /15FOCUS AND DEVELOPMENT: Body of the paper focuses on this thesis and develops it fully, recognizing the complexity of issues. /30SUPPORT AND SYNTHESIS: Uses sufficient and relevant evidence to support the thesis (and primary points), including facts, inferences, and judgments. South University Week 5 Factors that Affect Social Mobility Paper
DUE 6/12During Week 5, we studied social stratification and how it influences what goes on in many social interactions among people. After you have read the reading assignment and lecture for this week, please respond to all parts of the discussion by the due date assigned: What are some of the factors that affect social mobility? Can these be overcome?Do you believe the structural-functionalist or the social conflict approach best explains social stratification? Why?How does the media reflect attitudes on gender as far as depicting women and men in very traditional roles? Provide two detailed examples that substantiate your points—these can be an advertisement, television show, website, or magazine. When you think of various groups (race, class, and gender) in society, which ones have the most power and which ones have the least? Using Intersection Theory, identify two groups that have unequal amounts of power and resources, being specific and using the text and outside resources. For each group, has the power dynamic changed over time? Do you think it will change in the future? Why or why not?DUE 6/15Using the textbook and the South University Online Library, write a 1500-word paper using APA standards that focuses on the following: Interview two different individuals regarding their positions in society. Analyze their responses regarding:Identify each person’s class, race, and gender, supporting your work with the text and/or outside resources. What role has class, race, and gender played in their lives? How do you see these stratifiers as playing a role, even if the interviewee is unaware of it?Apply one of the sociological perspectives to the individuals’ lives. Why did you choose this particular perspective? How does it explain each person’s life and life choices? What are some of the benefits and limitations to using interview as a research methodology?Analyze each person’s specific components of culture and relate them to his/her stratified position in society.

SU Energy Climate Crisis Discussion
1) DISCUSSION POST
The Cost of Natural Resources
As Hite and Seitz (2016) show in Chapter 4: Energy, the world is in the midst of an energy crisis as it concerns the rapid use and depletion of nonrenewable natural resources.
According to the textbook, “Many experts predict that the largest increase in demand for oil in the coming years will come from increasingly industrialized economies with large populations…” (p. 140)
Can this be offset by measures taken in developed nations to address the energy–climate crisis? Why or why not? What potential strategies could be used to reduce the demand for energy in industrialized economies with large populations?
2) PEER REVIEW #1 (TYRONE)
Hello everyone,
Can this be offset by measures taken in developed nations to address the energy-climate crisis?
In my opinion, I think that this can be offset by measures taken in developed nations. I think that in all except the US. LOL. I say that because we are so wasteful, irresponsible and entitled. Typically, we don't see that in any other country. I could be wrong. So yes, with other developed nations the way they steward resources, are grateful for opportunities and are not completely wasteful with their resources they may very well help offset energy-climate crisis.
What potential strategies could be used to reduce the demand for energy in industrialized economies with large populations?
I think one potential strategy is to electrify more vehicles and working equipment. I'm quite certain that more electric vehicles on the highways will cut down on emissions and oil consumption. Therefore, the demand for oil use will be reduced, right? I could be completely wrong. Even with construction equipment, technology now is advanced enough to create these machines that produce less air pollution and waste.

--I believe that it can be taken into developed nations to address the energy-climate crisis because the demand for oil is seen to be cleaner and more convenient to use. Up through the end of the twentieth century, most of the increased energy use took place in the developed nations, but the trend changed by the twenty-first century. According to the data in Figure 4.2 and Table 4.3 of the book, shows the world's supply of energy by type and oil is seen to lead at 31 percent in the study made in 2012 where fossil fuels made up about 82 percent of the energy used.
