Out of the two tests I believe the
most accurate is the Vickers method. The
Vickers Method uses a square shaped with a penetrating tip in one
corner. This striker also is more
durable when compared to Brinell's rounded model due to the shape and design. The Vickers striker will not deform over a period of time. When making a mark, the dark on light metal square impression left behind by the Vickers is also more easily read than that of the Brinell model. This can allow for consistent readings and measures of hardness. It is also important to mention that the Vickers hardness scale was designed to test other materials the Brinell test was unable to in 1924.
