Description
Instructions: Final Research Project. Your organization is going to be expanding globally. Select two (2) countries of your choice. You will conduct research in which you
- Identify and discuss, for each country, the customary benefits organizations provide their employees in those countries.
- In your discussion, compare these countries with what organizations in the United States provide employees.
- Topics to include in your comparison will include, but not limited to, health insurance benefits, wages, and paid time off. When sharing and comparing the countries, make sure you include information as to why. For example, if the income tax rate is extremely high, organizations might tend to offer X benefit.
- Next, you want identify what these countries might do better and what might US organization do better.
- Finally, make a recommendation as to 1) which country your organization should consider entering and 2) what benefits and wage practices would you recommend and would these benefits be the same as to what you offer employees in the United States.
Please keep in mind that what you provide in your paper must support your recommendations. For example, in France, if you take public transportation to and from work, the company must pay 50% of their monthly transportation pass. This is something that might work for your organization here in the United States, especially in larger cities that encourage using mass transit, but you need to make sure you explain why if you did not already share this in the body of your paper.
Prepare your research project this week as if you are preparing to present your findings to a HRM Benefits

Introduction
Employee benefits refer to a wide range of benefits that are given to employees apart
from their salary. Some of the benefits are required by law, such as workers’ compensation,
social security, and unemployment insurance. However, others are customarily bestowed at the
discretion of the employer or business owner. They include paid holidays, housing allowance,
commuting allowance, health insurance, employee stock ownership, paid vocations, among
others.
This paper compares the customary benefits that companies offer to employees in China,
Japan, and the US. The paper further considers what can be done better by companies in the
three countries and recommends courses of action that can be taken to improve wage practices
for the companies.
Customary Benefits in Japan
Japanese companies when hiring are expected to enroll all employees in all social benefit
schemes including child benefits, health insurance, pension insurance, employment insurance,
workman’s accident compensation insurance, and special insurance. But there are also benefits
that are given at the discretion of the employer such as paid leave, commuting, private pension,
vacation, and life insurance.
Employee benefits in Japan are a major deal due to the fierce competition for talent.
Japanese candidates are normally very picky when it comes to deciding which company to work
for. New market entrants seeking to hire need to invest in benefit packages so as to attract secure
talent. Generally, Japanese employees are more interested in employers who show concern for
their private lives even if the employers are demanding (Export to Japan, 2021). They want

employers who will access them to benefits such as commuting allowance, house allowance,
good insurance, and other bonuses and pensions.
Commuting allowance
Most employers in Japan provide a commuting allowance that covers travel between the
home and the office (Export to Japan, 2021). This benefit is valuable to employees as most of
them travel for at least one hour or longer to work. The expense is calculated as per the most
economic route from an employee’s home to the workplace. Commuting allowance up to a
certain amount is also not subject to income tax.
Private pension
This benefit is offered mainly by large companies. Small companies do not afford this
benefit because of headcount. Foreign subsidiaries that are new in Japanese markets offer higher
salaries to compensate for the nonpayment of private pensions.
Housing allowance
Generally, Japanese companies offer a specified amount in monthly payment to
employees who meet certain criteria for house allowance. There is the rent subsid...
