a. The speed of sound in sea water is 340 m/s.

The wavelength= speed/frequency=340/(600x10^3)= 5.67x10^-4 m

b. Since the echoes were detected 0.42s after the sound waves were emitted, it takes the sound waves 0.42/2=0.21s to reach the target.

So the depth=0.21x340=71.4 m
