Some clarification on each assessment:
1. Assessment 1: Discussion Participation: You will be assessed based on your accessible login on LMS, using the
“Discussion Participation” on the LMS and your interaction through email etc with the faculty and coordinators
here in Australia.
2. Assessment 2: Operation Plan: Based on the guideline provided, each student must submit a case study.
3. Assessment 3: Supply Chain Group Report: Group presentation and a group report
The following instructions are strictly applied throughout our MBA programme:
1. The assessments are an important part of unit progression and are to be attended to diligently. Hence, no
attempt at an assessment means no marks.
2. Assessment tasks must be submitted within the timeframe given. Late submission will attract a 5% deduction in
the mark for each day the submission is late.
3. Assessment guidelines must be followed, for example, if the assessment involves a written report of 2,000
words, the word count is important. If the word count is more than 10% outside the guideline, there will be a
deduction of 5% off the final mark.
4. All assessments must be submitted to VIT, Australia and will be checked, marked and the student provided with
feedback. Assessments can be submitted on LMS and by email.
5. Students are required to achieve at least 40% in each assessment component and an overall mark of 50% to
achieve a pass grade in the unit. If a student does not achieve 40% in an assessment and the overall mark for the
unit is more than 50%, then a mark of 49% will be recorded for the unit.
6. The authorised agent/local facilitator can help students understand the various parts of the assessment and
also will be appointed as “Invigilator” (supervision only) for the assessment.

MBA 5003 - Assessment 2 Operations Plan – Weightage 40%
Guidelines
Assignment Tasks
This assessment will require students to develop a detailed Operations Plan for an operation relating to a
product or service to be delivered across national borders. The main assignment tasks are the following:
http://www.academia.edu/8516165/Organisational_Behaviour_A_case_study_of_CocaCola_Company
https://www.scribd.com/doc/138053993/Organizational-Behavior-A-Case-Analysis-of-Google
In a Case Study Report, include the following:
4
MBA 5003 Ma naging L ogistic s and Technolog y
1. Identify a product or service company (or other organization) with which you are familiar. Provide a brief
description of the company.
2. Describe, in general, the key operations in this company and how these operations relate to the company’s
strategy, its competitive priorities, and the key performance indicators used by the company
3. Using the operations model presented in Unit 5003 Modules A, B, and C, define in detail one of these
operations, clearly identifying the transforming and transformed resources, the transformation process, and the
outputs and outcomes of the operation
4. Provide a critical review of this key operation and its management that might underpin its future improvement
and contribution to the company’s competitive priorities
5. Present this in an Operations Plan for this operation (based on your analysis and review) which highlights the
resources and key management decisions that might need to be made to secure improvement in the operation.
Developing an Operational Plan
Operational planning takes the broad strategies and objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan, turns them into
specific tasks and allocates the people and other resources of the organisation to get them done. It addresses
the question – ‘What do we need to do to make it all happen and know we are on track?’ It provides the staff and
volunteers in the organisation with their day to day and week to week tasks, lets them know where they are going
and gives them a measure of what they are expected to achieve.
It makes sense that the people who are most directly responsible for ensuring that the outcomes are achieved
are included in the development of the workplans. Specific activities are nominated that are necessary to achieve
the strategies and goals set by the board or management committee. Specific staff, timelines and resources are
allocated to these activities which then form the basis for reporting and evaluation.
Assignment task requires a description of the allocation of resources, a timeline, and the performance indicators
against which the plan will be measured and assessed. This will involve a description of:
•
•
•
•
Allocation of Human Resources (Who is responsible?)
Allocation of Financial Resources (How much budget?)
Setting Timelines (When does this happen?)
Setting Performance Indicators (What are we aiming to achieve?)
Each of these elements is explained below:
Allocating Human Resources
Every strategy must have an “owner” i.e. somebody has to be responsible for the implementation of that strategy.
If someone is not made responsible for the strategy, it is highly likely that it will not be implemented.
Human Resources Plan
Can include: Any proposed staff/volunteer changes; Professional Development Plan (including Management
Committee, staff, volunteers)
For example:
Strategy
Person Responsible
Conduct series of three Clinics for Coaches
Coaching Director
The strategy may be allocated to just one person, or to a group of people e.g. a team of people, a sub-committee
or a department.
MBA 5003 Ma naging L ogistic s and Technolog y
5
Allocating Financial Resources
Not every strategy requires money, but most will. If people have to be paid to carry out work, then there will be
financial resources needed for their remuneration. If volunteers are involved, money may need to be set aside for
food and/or other necessities. Many strategies will involve administration costs in the form of telephone calls,
printing and photocopying and postage. Some strategies will involve the purchasing of equipment, or materials,
or promotional costs such as advertising.
The point is that thought has to be given to all possible costs that might be incurred if a strategy is implemented.
If there is an inadequate allocation of money for the implementation of a strategy, chances are it will fail.
A financial plan can include:
• Annual budget
• Cash flow projection
• Cash management plan
Setting Timelines
The implementation of any strategy needs a timeline, that is a time period during which work is performed to
achieve the desired outcome. The time period can be as short as a day, or it can be several months. The time
period could be in the near future, or it might be scheduled for a future year.
The purpose of inserting a timeline for each strategy in the Operational Plan is to give order to the many tasks
that need to be carried out. There are always limited resources and therefore, at any given time, decisions need
to be made as to priorities and where work effort should be focused. It is pointless focusing the work effort on
strategies that don’t need to be completed yet at the expense of work being performed on strategies that are
urgent.
For example:
Strategy
Person Responsible
Submit application for Government funding of new
all-weather pitch
Costing completed by 30 March 2013
Submit application by 30 June 2013
Set Performance Indicators
There are a number of reasons why it is a general practice of business planning to set performance indicators.
The term ‘performance indicator’ may be defined as a standard or target that should be achieved. If the standard
is reached or the target is achieved, then the strategy might be considered as “performed”, in other words it is a
success.
For example:
Strategy
Person Responsible
Conduct series of three Clinics for Coaches
20 coaches attending each
Host an Open Day
100 visitors from the general public

MBA 5003 - Assessment 3 Supply chain Group Report – Weightage 40%
Guidelines
Students will organise themselves in small groups to investigate the supply chain of a real-life business
organisation (preferably a multinational organisation or a large scale enterprise) and propose recommendations
to optimise the supply chain management and operations using a high level IS with particular focus on
feasibility and implementation (practical success) .
You must prepare and present a report ,
• Discussing the possible improvements and their practical implementation focusing on the supply chain activity
of the chosen enterprise.
• Furthermore, try and define key terms and concepts draw on key logistics and supply chain management
strategies that are influenced by a variety of business context.
• Apply logistics and supply chain management strategies to assist functional areas.
• Understand and be able to research the impact that IS has on organisations and the consequent changes that
have occurred to the role of business managers.
Also remember to be analytical within your report and examine key terms and theoretical relationships in depth.
The Business Report should be written in appropriate business language so that your analysis and discussion
have an objective tone. Your writing should be clear and concise and be in your own words. Use headings to
guide the reader and include tables or diagrams that make the case clearer.
Definition
In the workplace, reports are often required to as a formal account of a situation. They are produced after
consideration of all relevant factors and analysis using relevant concepts in the field. The recommendations and
their implementation are then based on this analysis, using business language appropriate to the audience. In
the academic context, reports similarly require research and analysis to demonstrate your learning and ability to
apply course concepts and theories leading to feasible recommendations.

Executive Summary
The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) is the world’s biggest distributor and manufacturer of
soft drinks in the world, with a presence in every country in the world. It is widely known for
their flagship product Coca-Cola. Their success can be attributed to their robust supply chain and
excellent supply chain management. This report analyses the company’s current internal and
external situation through performing PESTLE and SWOT analysis. This report also discusses
the factors that underpins TCCC’s remarkable supply chain including supply chain management
and strategies. An
outstanding and unique strategy of the company is an emphasis on
maintaining and strengthening TCCC’s relationship with local suppliers, retailers and bottlers.
There are multiple issues identified in TCCC’s supply chain, including the lack of sustainability,
safety and regulation issues, and a lack of innovation compared to their main competitor, Pepsi.
TCCC uses information systems (IS) and advanced technologies such as 3D printing, digital
marketing, RFID technology and artificial intelligence to grow and optimise their supply chain.
This report also includes some recommendations to improve TCCC’s supply chain and resolve
some of the issues identified. To conclude, TCCC’s impressive supply chain is one of the factors
of its success, and has long been a model for other organisations to follow. By constantly
improving and optimising their supply chain, TCCC can continue to expand and grow as the
world’s leading beverage company.

Introduction
The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) is a multinational conglomerate firm founded in 1892,
known primarily for their flagship product Coca-Cola, a carbonated beverage that dominates the
international beverage market. The corporation’s headquarters are in Georgia, United States.
TCCC is the largest distributor and manufacturer of beverages in the world, with more than
2,800 different products available in virtually every country in the world (Zeidan, 2021). It was
reported that over 10,000 beverages from TCCC are consumed every second globally
("Coca-Cola Company Statistics and Facts - Market.us", 2021). As a result, TCCC became one
of the world’s best-known brands and is one of the largest companies in the US.
At least part of TCCC’s success can be attributed to supply chain management. Supply
chain can be defined as organisations or individuals that are directly involved in the flow of
information, products and/or services from its source to a consumer (Mentzer et al., 2001).
Activities in the supply chain involve transforming raw materials into a product which is then
delivered to consumers (Kozlenkova et al., 2015). Supply chain is closely linked to the
transformation process and value chain (Nagurney, 2006).
Scope
This report will analyse TCCC’s current internal and external situation, its supply chain
strategies and management method. This report will also discuss the possible improvements that
can be made to the supply chain of TCCC, recommendations and their practical
implementations, as well as explore the impact of information systems has on the company. Due
4
to the nature and word constraints of this assignment, not every aspect of TCCC’s supply chain
will be discussed.
Reasons for selecting the company
TCCC has an impressive supply chain, with 56 plants, 279 production lines and 98
distribution centres worldwide (Walendy, 2021). Moreover, they are able to get their products
from their factories to shelves within 48 hours (White, 2021). Given the vast nature of TCCC,
this accomplishment is no small feat. TCCC was selected precisely because of this. The
corporation is known for its robust yet innovative and flexible supply chain management
techniques, pioneering new strategies in the food and beverage industry.
Current situation including internal and external analysis
The current internal and external situation of TCCC will be analysed using SWOT and
PESTLE analysis. Both are important concepts commonly used by businesses to track and
analyse the environments that they are operating in. SWOT analysis helps businesses evaluate
their internal environment and how they compare to their competitors (Teoli et al., 2019). It is a
mnemonic that denotes S for Strengths, W for Weaknesses, O for Opportunities, and T for
Threats. On the other hand, PESTLE analysis is an exceptionally powerful and robust tool that
businesses can use to understand their external environment and is quite possibly the most
utilized model in the evaluation of the external business climate (Perera, 2017). PESTLE is a
5
mnemonic that denotes P for Political, E for Economical, S for Strengths, T for Technological, L
for Legal and E for Environmental.
SWOT Analysis
6
PESTEL Analysis
Supply Chain Management
Supply chain is the process of buying raw materials, converting it into finished goods and
providing it to end users through retailers or making direct sales ("Supply Chain", 2021). Supply
Chain Management (SCM) is the management of the whole process from buying raw materials,
7
converting it into finished goods, and then delivering it to the desired location, either retailers or
outlets, or making direct sales online ("Supply Chain", 2021). It aims to identify and implement
processes and systems to maximise value across all activities ("Supply Chain", 2021). TCCC
procurement starts with purchasing raw materials such as sugar cane and water from local
suppliers. The first step of production includes production of concentration. After production, it
is packed and distributed to retailers and distributors such as grocery stores, restaurants and
cinemas (Walendlay, 2020).
TCCC has over 900 bottling and manufacturing facilities worldwide, including some of
the world’s fastest production lines. TCCC incorporates cutting-edge technology into its supply
chain with ease. For example, it makes some of its bottles and cans for its drinks using 3D
printing (White, 2020). TCCC also has a Global Supply Chain Council, made up of
subcommittees that are responsible for adhering to the defined TCCC supply chain strategy and
to improve the performance of their supply chain operators.
Supply Chain Strategies
TCCC is well-known for their efficient and remarkable supply chain strategies. A
company’s logistics expertise is integral to their supply chain. TCCC has integrated several
strategies into their supply chain to ensure efficiency and excellence. First, the company uses
advanced, modern technology such as 3D printing to produce small quantities of bottles and cans
(Bilton, 2021). Another way TCCC optimises their supply chain is through local sourcing and
partnerships with local suppliers. This reduces the time it takes for the company to deliver their
raw materials (e.g. sugar) to the processing plants, which drastically lowers risks. This also helps
8
boost the socio-economic development in these countries by increasing employment rates.
Moreover, the company highlights the importance in maintaining partnerships with their
suppliers, strengthening the supply network (COWS, 2021). For example, McDonalds has been a
key partner of TCCC’s since 1955.
Supplier relationship management has always been a key part of TCCC’s supply chain.
The company holds annual meetings which include their key suppliers and key customers. The
meetings also provide an opportunity for the company to discuss their market needs and the
suppliers’ latest innovations (Dynamic inventory, 2018). Moreover, they work and collaborate
closely with their bottlers. The company’s guidelines for its bottling partners and suppliers are
centralised and directly supervised by The Coca-Cola Export Corporation (TCCEC). This means
that most of the decisions regarding the organisation’s operations are made by the headquarters.
Using Information Systems (IS)
TCCC has been very successful in incorporating information systems (IS) into their
organization. Advanced technologies in their supply chain are one of the main reasons why it is
so efficient and excellent. One of the strengths as identified in SWOT analysis above is TCCC’s
strong marketing strategies. Through digital channels, and mobile adoption, their brand is being
recognized globally through advertisement campaigns on social media sites (Home Hub Admin,
2020).
Another way TCCC has incorporated IS into their organisation is using 3D printing when
manufacturing bottles and cans for short-run manufactures like Diet Coke Feisty Cherry (Shrum,
9
2018). Additionally, the use of System Application Product’s Enterprise Resource Planning
(SAP’s ERP). TCCC partnered with SAP to develop a beverage-specific application (Songini,
2004). SAP ERP is one of the world’s leading software systems that manages business processes.
The last one is their innovative way of using RFID technology wherein TCCC used an RFID
enabled drink dispenser (Clary, 2009). TCCC partnered with Genesys in 2019 to transform their
customer experience through the combination of AI and machine learning that gave the business
agility, interoperability, and omnichannel solution (Genesys, 2021).
Issues identified
An issue that has been identified is the lack of innovation. Pepsi, TCCC’s main
competitor, offers food products such as Lays and Cheetos. TCCC needs to urgently diversify
their products to remain competitive.
Several food safety issues were faced by the company in the past couple of years. The
issues included a pesticide scare in India and a contamination scare in Belgium (Reeves, 2021).
This can negatively impact the company’s brand and reputation. Concerns about the safety of
food additives have become more prevalent in recent years, and food safety regulators are
cracking down on various food safety requirements.
One of the biggest and most pressing issues identified in TCCC’s supply chain is
sustainability. Four sustainability issues that TCCC is faced with are water, climate, sustainable
packaging and energy (Coca-Cola supply chain management, n.d.). TCCC’s factory emissions
contribute to climate change by emitting a large quantity of CO2. A recent study in 2019 has
10
named TCCC as the largest plastic polluter in the world (Home Hub Admin, 2021). Currently,
only 20–25% of TCCC’s beverages packaging is recyclable plastic (O'Reilly, 2011).
Recommendations for supply chain improvement
One of the most common ways to improve supply chain is by increasing supply chain
visibility. This can reduce disruptions in the supply chain due to unforeseeable external factors
such as natural disasters or abnormal weather. Supply chain visibility is an organisation’s ability
to track raw materials and manufacturing processes from source to consumers (Ault, 2021).
Improving visibility can also improve customer satisfaction due to fast delivery. It is
recommended that TCCC invest in a system that can effectively and accurately track real-time
locations of shipments, predict lead time and analyse information collected.
As the world’s largest soft drink company, it is expected to continue pushing the envelope
by developing new products and expanding its existing line. In order to compete with Pepsi, its
main competitor, TCCC needs to be more innovative and diversify its product portfolio. For
example, TCCC can introduce food products to compliment the beverages. Having a variety of
products will allow the company to grow and attract more investors.
TCCC has faced a slew of controversies regarding its products safety records. It is
recommended that TCCC take these food safety and regulatory issues seriously by responding to
these criticisms and implement stricter rules and guidelines in their supply chain. For example,
more food safety officers should be appointed and quality control checks need to be done
regularly and randomly (Kregiel, 2015).
11
Sustainability has been a big problem for TCCC, and the company has been criticised by
environmental groups as being one of the largest contributors to plastic pollution. TCCC should
work towards a completely plastic-free packaging to reduce plastic pollution, as well as
implementing a circular economy in their supply chain. For example, consumers can return
Coca-Cola glass bottles to retailers or bottlers in exchange for a discount in their next purchase.
It is acknowledged that converting from single-use plastic bottles to more sustainable packaging
might not be cost effective, but as the world’s leading beverage manufacturer, TCCC has a social
and ethical responsibility to reduce their plastic waste and carbon footprint. The company can
utilise its existing 3D printing more by investing in more 3D printers as this technology is widely
known to be more sustainable because it reduces waste (TCCC, 2021).
Conclusion
To conclude, many organisations are following TCCC’s example and are looking to
constantly improve and optimise their supply chains. Many factors contribute to TCCC’s
impressive supply chain management system, including but not limited to, advanced
technologies, an emphasis on supplier and partner relationships management and strict quality
control. They were also able to integrate advanced IS into their organisation to make their supply
chain efficient and excellent by using technologies such as 3D printing, RFID technologies and
their CRM. The unique amalgamation of these strategies make TCCC the leading beverage
company in the world. However, TCCC is not perfect. One of the most prominent issues
identified in their supply chain is sustainability. TCCC is one of the world’s largest contributors
to plastic pollution. Moreover, they have also faced multiple safety and contamination issues, as
12
well as a lack of innovation when compared to their biggest competitor, Pepsi. Based on these
issues, we have made some recommendations to improve their supply chain which entails
increasing supply chain visibility, improving innovation and moving towards a more sustainable
supply chain by removing waste and single-use plastic packaging. By incorporating these
recommendations, we believe that TCCC can optimise their supply chain and further expand
their business, as well as take a step forward to fulfilling their social and ethical responsibility by
reducing their carbon footprint.

SUPPLY CHAIN STRATEGIES
The management of supply chain is very important for every business. The businesses adopt
several new strategies that help the business to grow by managing its supply chain
efficiently. The supply chain strategies of the Mahindra Company are following:
1. The company source the input materials/ past assembles across the world leading to
a complex supply chain.
2. The company is focusing on reducing the production lead time by 20% (Mahindra,
n.d).
3. The new strategy of the company is the sourcing strategy that will help the company
to reduce the purchasing cost by 2-3% in every year (Hogg, 2014).
4. The company adopted several logistics solutions for transforming its supply chain
(Mahindra, 2021). They provide end to end logistics solutions and services including
transportation, warehousing, in-factory logistics as well as value added services to
the customers. These practices and services improve the efficiency of supply chain of
Mahindra.
MANAGEMENT METHOD
Following are some key management methods that the company adopted for managing the
supply chain:
1. According to Mahindra (2021), they are improving their various business processes
for making their supply chain more efficient.
2. For managing the supply chain, tech Mahindra adopted several new technologies.
For example, high tech transport management system adopted by company allows
transparency, predictability, real time updates that provide the company better
control on the logistics and transport.
3. For improving the supply chain, they also focus on reducing the number of vendors
and suppliers. They work with only good vendors who provide better services.
ISSUES IDENTIFIED
Following are some issues identified in supply chain management of Mahindra Company:
1. One of the issues is the marketing department. In today’s competitive world,
marketing involving sales pitch, advertisement etc plays crucial role in leading the
business towards success. The brand imaging of the Mahindra is very effective in
India. But, they need to focus on marketing and brand imaging in other countries as
well. There is requirement of improving efficiencies in various tasks and activities
performed by the marketing department.
2. Retail customers, vendors, suppliers, dealers also play important role in improving
the reputation as well as the revenue. But, Mahindra is not dealing with multiple
dealers in other countries except India which affects the revenue as well as the
reputation of the company in negative way. So, the company must deal with
different vendors and suppliers in other countries as well so that cheaper and betterquality spare parts, machinery etc can be purchased and efficiency in supply chain
can be improved. In addition to that, the company should approach dealers in
various countries so that sales of various vehicles of the company should be
improved.
RECOMMENDATIONS
After critical analysis of several factors including the SWOT analysis, following
recommendations are made for improving the supply chain management of Mahindra
Company:
1. The company should deal with multiple dealers, vendors, suppliers etc in other
countries as well rather than just being dependent on vendors available in India. This
will give the company better and more options that will help in increasing the
revenue as well as the quality of vehicles manufactured by the company.
2. The company should focus on brand imaging in various countries which will help the
company in enhancing the sales of vehicles worldwide.
3. The technology plays important role in success of the business. in this competitive
world, businesses need to cope up with the latest technologies to gain the
competitive advantage. So, the Mahindra company should be aware of the latest
trends, technologies etc which can improve the value and efficiency of the supply
chain of the company.
CONCLUSION
In a nutshell, it can be concluded that the Mahindra Company is well performing company in
India and some other countries as well. They have adopted complex supply chain and some
strategies for improving the growth of the business as well as managing its supply chain
efficiently. But, still there are some issues that affects the performance of its supply chain.
The company should focus on resolving these issues. The report also provided some key
recommendations which will help the company for managing its supply chain efficiently and
leading the business towards success. The company is performing well in India. But, the
company should now manage its supply chain in a way that it can perform in other countries
worldwide in the similar manner.
