Description

Hello. I got a 24/40 on one of my essays and i need it to be revised and polished up. I need a very high grade on this assignment. So please give it your best effort. Here is the outline for the essay in case you need it: Exemplification Notes:

At this point, you should have read through the module on exemplification found on our Canvas class site. This is the type of writing that each of you has been doing since middle school -- making a statement of some kind and backing it up with examples.

Here are some general notes, followed by some writing suggestions.

Overall Purpose:

  • To make an assertion and support it (back it up) with examples and explanations.

Specific Uses:

  • To inform, educate and explain.
  • To entertain.
  • To argue.
  • To clarify.
  • To define.
  • To compare or contrast.
  • To show cause and effects.

How to do it:

  • Figure out your purpose and audience – these two items always determine what you say and how you say it.
  • Generate examples.
  • Select the examples you’re going to use, because you cannot use everything.
  • Organize your examples in a sensible manner.
  • Begin writing.

Examples must be:

  • Accurate.
  • Relevant.
  • Interesting.
  • Specific and precise and concrete.
  • Explained or interpreted.
  • Cited if referring to an outside source.
  • Supportive, not contradictory. They must support their respective topic sentences which, in turn, support the thesis statement
  • Representative.

Types of examples:

  • Personal experiences or observations.
  • Anecdotes.
  • Names of people, products, or places.
  • References to authority (expert opinions or an authoritative document).
  • Typical (an actual event that occurred but not to you or anyone you know).
  • Hypothetical (realistic but invented). Can you imagine what it would be like to…
  • Generalized (a combination of typical events). All of us at one point have…
  • Extended (thoroughly developed with many details).

Types of organization patterns:

  • Spatial.
  • Chronological
  • Emphatic.
  • M-W-S (moderate then weakest then strongest)

Be aware of:

  • What your audience knows and does not know.
  • Jargon or specialized language.
  • Transitions between ideas (within sentences, between sentences, and between paragraphs).
  • Balance – generally speaking, all of your examples should carry equal weight.
  • Outside sources, such as quotations, cannot simply be “dropped” onto your page. You absolutely must explain your examples or they become, essentially, useless.

Some things to think about:

  • Each essay begins with a thesis and then proceeds to prove that thesis by using a series of examples that flow together in a logical pattern.
  • The thesis must be explicitly stated and easily identified by the reader.
  • The examples chosen may be serious or humorous, but they must be well organized, detailed, and descriptive.
  • All examples must be explained.
  • When using an outside sources, they must all be properly cited.
  • The example may tell a story but the main purpose is not to tell a story. Instead, it is to explain and/or convince the reader of the proposition (thesis) introduced at the beginning of the essay.
  • Clarity and organization are essential. This type of essay is extremely organized:
    • Each example within a paragraph supports that paragraph’s topic sentence.
    • Each topic sentence supports the overall thesis of the essay.

Assignment:

Please write an exemplification essay,

  • double-spaced, 12-point font (easy to read, please)
  • 5-7 pages in length
  • plus a Works Cited page,
  • and an outline (submitted as a separate assignment on Canvas)
  • following MLA guidelines
  • including at least three or more citations
    • one citation should reference our text
    • one citation should reference class handouts (or handouts/reference found on our class's Canvas site)
    • one or more should come from your own research
  • that responds to (explains) one of the following topics:
  1. How robots currently affect the American economy OR will affect the American economy in the future
  2. How robots currently function as human companions OR may function as human companions in the future
  3. How robots are changing machine-human relationships on a societal/cultural level in America
  4. How robots are changing OR may change the definition of what is human

Please be aware that all of these are very, very broad topics. You will need to narrow the focus of your essay quite a bit in order to write such a short essay. These are just topics. You need to refine them in order to come up with a workable thesis. Also, you will need to site evidence to support your thesis and arrive at a reasonable conclusion.

NOTE: Sources such as spark notes, monkey notes, shmoop, e-notes, wikipedia, and other essay-helping sites are simply not acceptable. Your grade on an assignment will be drastically reduced if you provide evidence from these types of sites.

**ALSO** here are the teachers comments about my first essay submission:

Avoid announcements such as "this paper sets out..." Remember to explain and interpret your quotations/paraphrases so they are understandable and relate to your thesis.Brian Yablon, Feb 25 at 7:07am
You have quite a number of paraphrases here but many of them lack concrete, explanatory details. You need to explain what they mean and provide specific examples. Otherwise, the paraphrases appear as filler.Brian Yablon, Feb 25 at 7:08am
This is very interesting but you must be aware o your audience. You have delved deeply into this field but you must explain your discoveries in such a way as they make sense to someone less familiar with the material. For each (or at least most) of your assertions, you need to provide a concrete detail/example. Do not assume that your reader will understand or interpret your sources the way you do.

Ankri, Mai Section # 31171 English 101 2/6/17 How Will Robots Affect the American Economy in the Future? Many emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, robots, and machines, are quickly learning and growing and rapidly in the world. that have a great impact on the economy, employment and community policies. The use of such robots has both positive and negative impact on business and employees. Although these technologies can improve speed, quality, and cost of goods and services, but they will lead to an economy that will use intensely few workers on the job. While technology assumes the acceleration path, it is quite reasonable to believe that humans should expect dramatic changes in decades to come. Most people have taken the rapid advancement in technology for granted. (Asimov). In U.S. economy the robots are increasingly used in almost all industries and no doubt are going to stay for long in future. The U.S. future and economy is heavily affected by the robots both immediately and for long-term. Artificial intelligence technologies like Google’s driverless or automatic cars are shoplifting headlines and overtaking their human competitors. It’s clear that that the U.S. is bracing for tough times ahead for the fundamental shift in how we perform the task and how the future workplace will look like (Gans, 173). The future might have a heavy impact of robots taking over most operations that would otherwise be done by man. Many Oxford researchers recently found that 47% of the total U.S. employment is at risk of being reduced or even eliminated. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz, a global automobile company, announce that it is exchanging some of its production robots with human labor because the robotic machines cannot meet up with the increasing options and requirements of customization. The continued trend of artificial intelligence and robots will unsurprisingly create an increase in wealth through social instability and inequality. There are too many workers without well-paying jobs. Computers and robots, with the help of humans, tend to produce services and goods at a faster rate (Negroni, 1). In practice, it will be possible for machines and robots to win the trust of most companies hence, technology will dominate the marketplace to make sure the growth and survival of the companies in such an advancing economy. Technology is the primary driver of growth of wealth inequality in the U.S. and the rest of the world. A look at the robotic trends prevailing in the contemporary American society, it is fair to justifiably state that “the future economic trends of the First world will be overtaken by these advanced technologies”. Increased competitiveness is a robotic trend that will hold true if this robotic automation route will continue in future. From many thousand years, technology is playing a major role in making work more efficient and speedy, from simple farming tools to latest assembly line robots in factories. Robots are becoming present in different business situations and working among human being or completely replacing them. For example, Amazon.com Inc. is using a variety of robots in warehouses for the stock of inventory and other packaged items. Robots are even used for therapy of children and in the assembly line of cars and batteries of Tesla Motors Inc. Certainly, the robotic technology is replacing jobs and an important threat to low and middle skilled workers, but it also has a positive impact on the economy [Jim Rock (2016)]. Controlling labor cost is the largest difficulty to success for U.S. business today. If a business is able to keep up consistent labor cost with increasing productivity, then the business will be competitive within and outside of the organization. Robotic technology makes this competitiveness possible. Robots help businesses to automate the repetitive tasks and allow skilled workers to focus on critical tasks. Most of the robotic technologies do not necessarily replace human labor but, simply make their work simple and efficient. For example, Uber and Apple store are the cases where human labor have become more powerful and efficient with the aid of technology. Robots help to create better customer experience and new demand for American companies. In actuality, the progress of technology often has times, displaced workers. This has also improved or created the opportunities for employment. There are instances where the internet has taken over so many transactions from man as well as decisions. The increased use of robotic automation technology is making U.S. companies more competitive and the jobs which were offshore to other countries where labor is inexpensive will return to America’s labor market. A recent survey found that in 2014, almost 60,000 were added to U.S. which were just 12,000 in 2013. Manufacturing industry shows a great example of how robots can lead to increase in U.S. jobs by reducing costs and increasing capabilities. Accounting, tax preparation, computer programming, R&D etc. are the sectors which are outsourcing today but in future can take benefit from automation robotic technologies and can get jobs back to America. Robotic technology is a new and best source of human training. Most experts cannot really setup a decision on how many robots will have to enter the economy of the US, it is valid to say that the workforce in the US from manufacturers to the office of law firms will have an entirely new look once the technology is set for operation and fully integrated [Jim Rock (2016)]. Therefore, for the efficient survival of workers in this kind of environment, people have to embrace both technology and show some sense of adaptability. When robots enter the workforce, most of them will be proficient at one or two specific tasks. But, humans can be greatly flexible when it comes to how we work. Humans have a range of mental and physical abilities that will make sure that human labor will remain workable in the labor market as long as we will be adaptable and open-minded. Whether we believe that the impact of automatic robotic technology is advancing and promoting, or we are prepared to welcome the new robotic economy, there is no deny that the modern workplace is developing and growing. The incorporation of robotic automation technologies is a key trend in shaping the U.S. modern economy. Some scholars have speculated the existence of a second economy of technology, as huge as the first economy. Some experts did not agree on the impact of automation technology on the workplace, while others warn of increasing unemployment and some others argue that technology creates new jobs that will employ workers. Another group of experts argues that computers will affect employment in future. If emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and robots will make jobs less secure in future ahead, there is a need to offer benefits out of employment. “Flexible security” is an idea for providing benefits like healthcare, education and housing support for all citizens whether they are fully employed or not. Guaranteed basic income and business profit-sharing are some other ideas for providing benefits out of unemployment. Any policies and policy measure in future must take an account of this uncertainty of results on employment [Jim Rock (2016)]. The impact of robotic automation technologies is being felt throughout the U.S. economy. The number of industrial robots like driverless cars and automated gas or petrol pumps has increased rapidly over the past few years. The decreasing prices of robots, their ability to work all day without any interruption or error, make them cost-competitive among human labor. In the service sector, computer processes can do stock trades in fractions of a second, faster than any human. As these robotic technologies are becoming cheaper, more capable, more efficient and more common for use in industries, they will find even more applications in an economy in the future ahead. Robotic technology has both positive and negative impact on the American economy. There is a hope that technology will create a more productive and efficient economy in the United States. World’s top tech companies are in a competition to build the more and more best artificial intelligence and to capture the huge part of the market. Which means that technology will grow fast and will come to us very fast. “Twenty years from now, this technology will be one of the major drivers of innovation and technology, if not the major one,” Hawkins says. “But you want specific predictions? It’s impossible.” While there might be fears that the transition of jobs may take place from abundant to almost no jobs, and that only a few people who deal in robot designs will most likely gain from this, It is also important to note that the rise in wealth inequality might still be here with us in future unless the US abandons the trends of the 19th century and move into the 22nd century but surely this robotic technology will offer opportunities to improve and make more efficient industries, production activities, workplace and employment opportunities [Jim Rock (2016)]. How Robots Will Affect the American Economy in the Future
As technology continues its accelerated growth, it is entirely reasonable to believe that
humans should expect dramatic changes in decades to come. Most people seem to have taken the
rapid advancement of technology for granted, especially when it relates to the products and
services that it provides us (Asimov). That is to say that we have gotten comfortable with the
current rate of expansion and the results it yields, one that is often favorable to us. Still, people fail
to recognize the scope of these changes, and the possibilities they bring. At its constant rate of
growth, technology has begun to bear an impact on the economy and society while humanity
remains in denial of this fact (Asimov).
Though most people cast doubt on the possibility of robots having a heavy impact on the future,
with every passing day, this becomes more plausible. If this were to occur, the labor market would
undergo a drastic shift as it contemplates whether or not robots could take over most of the
operations that could otherwise be done by a person. The impacts of such an occurrence could be
both intermediate and long-term in their reach. For example, the world has recently been treated
to some exciting and captivating headlines regarding driverless cars (Negroni, 1). These machines
have proved themselves to be more capable than their human counterparts. Alone, self-driving cars
are simply ingenious and creative developments of the human mind. As part of a trend, however,

advancements like this only show how evident it is that the human populace is bracing for tough
times ahead (Gans, 173). A fundamental shift in the performance of tasks might be in our near
future.
Some experts argue that jobs already disappear at a higher rate than they are created. This is a trend
that rises as a result of technological advancement (Asimov). If this continues, an inevitable
increase in wealth will be created through social instability and inequality. There are too many
workers without well-paying jobs that fit their skillset, as they have been replaced, directly or
indirectly, by the machines and servi...
