Description

Paper topic (10 % of the final grade)- The biggest question concerning the research paper is usually the first one- "What topic should I do?" I am not providing a list of suggested topics because formulating the topic is one of the most important things you will learn to do in this class, something you can carry over into other subjects
The topic for the paper is very important, as it has to be something of appropriate scale for the length of the paper. The biggest problem of student paper topics is the attempt to be too broad. Don’t get too ambitious! The narrower the focus, the more detailed information you can pack into your 1200 words, and that is what we are looking for. Broad and general topics just don't work that well in student papers, especially one this short. Think of this paper as really just a small piece of a much larger research project. Biography, by the way, people think biography is usually a pretty safe way to go, but remember, you are not trying to cover the person's entire life. Find one point you think is important and focus on that. A point that is somewhat controversial is best- you are trying to contribute to a historical debate here, so the paper has to have your perspective, not simply be a reworked encyclopedia article. In the proposal, you need to state a thesis (an idea about the topic) that you will try to prove or disprove when you write the paper.

You will need to provide a topic proposal, along with a Preliminary Bibliography of sources you can definitely get access to, including at least one primary source and at least four other valid academic sources by Friday, July 12

Assignment 2

Research Paper (20% of final grade): The research paper is a research topic of roughly 1200 words, your range of choices is extremely wide, but you need to present it in your proposal earlier in the term. (see assignment one).  Your instructor will give you final instructions. Following the directions completely will be very helpful to your grade. Papers that do not follow these instructions will be subject to downgrading. This paper is due on August 9

.       Term papers must be fully documented with properly cited sources. The only acceptable notation system for this paper is the endnote system. Do not place notes at the bottom of the page or in parentheses inside the text (MLA). The citations in your paper must be numbered consecutively from one upward (do not repeat numbers) and correspond to the list of numbers in the section of the paper entitled "Endnotes." You must cite the appropriate required works and all outside sources often and where they are relevant to the thesis and main points of your paper. A good scholarship in this area will help your grade. Lack of citations to the sources you used will lower your grade. A few citations will not satisfy the requirement for properly referencing your term paper. THIS INCLUDE BOTH ASSIGNMENTS. YOU CAN DO THE ASSIGNMENT ONE FIRST AS I WILL SEND YOU THE FEEDBACK FROM THE PROFESSOR FOR THE ASSIGNMENT TWO. THANK YOU!

Tax and American Revolution HIST 156 School Dr. Mike 2 The American Revolution, also known as the Revolutionary war, was a remarkable event in the U.S. History. It also freed Americans from a taxation that the Great Britain had tried to impose in order to pay off the debt from the French and Indian War. The debt from the Seven Years’ War significantly impacted the economy of both Great Britain and its colonies. To relieve economic hardship, the Parliament raised a tax on American colonies by legislative acts, such as the Stamp Act of 1765; accordingly, many Americans began to rebel against the British’s action. Although there were many colonial wars and conflicts influenced the American colonial society during the eighteenth century, the British national debt that arose after the French and Indian War influenced Americans the most, which eventually led them to the Revolutionary War. I chose this topic for my research project because I wanted to have a better understanding of the American Revolution and the French and Indian War. The Seven Years’ War particularly seemed to be a root cause of the Revolutionary war against the British because it resulted in the Great Britain’s enormous amount of the national debt. I also chose this topic because I was interested in a taxation. As I work as a Financial Management Technician in the U.S. Army, I have seen many Soldiers who have had issues with their taxes and have learned that every state and even every country does a taxation differently. Throughout the research project, I hope that I learn more about these subjects. < Stick closely with the debt, the tax issue and how it contributed to the revolution, and you will have a good focus here. The Bibliography is also excellent, though you still don’t have a proper primary source- something written at the time- I am sure that will come fairly easily.> 3 Annotated Bibliography George M., Wrong. 2017. "The Causes and Character of the American Revolution by H. E. Egerton (review)." no. 4: 338. ProjectMUSE, EBSCOhost (accessed September 2, 2018). This article is a review of H.E. Egerton’s book named “The Causes and Character of the American Revolution”. George M. Wrong broke down the book into each chapter and summarized the contents in this article. In the review, Wrong noted how the British controlled over the America by restricting colonial trades. Jari, Eloranta, and Land Jeremy. 2011. "HOLLOW VICTORY? BRITAIN’S PUBLIC DEBT AND THE SEVEN YEARS’ WAR." Essays In Economic And Business History, Vol 29, Iss 1 (2011) no. 1: Directory of Open Access Journals, EBSCOhost (accessed September 2, 2018). It is an academical journal which talks about the British’s national debt arose during and after the Seven Years’ War. The authors highlighted that the debt was mainly from military spending in the North American continent. In the journal, they also supported the argument that American Revolution was contributed by the French and Indian War. This article will be a primary resource for my research project. Page, Anthony. "Civil War and Revolution in British North America." Agora 51, no. 1 (January 2016): 20-27. Education Research Complete, EBSCOhost (accessed September 2, 2018). It is an article written by Anthony Page. It explained how the Britain reacted to its national debt and what the Americans’ reactions to the acts were. The author also described 4 American Patriots’ further actions to the taxation and other legislative actions by the Great Britain in chronological order. Passant, John. 2017. "Taxation and the American Revolution." Australasian Accounting Business & Finance Journal 11, no. 3: 20-29. Business Source Complete, EBSCOhost (accessed September 2, 2018). In the article, John Passant strongly argued that a taxation on American colonies was a primary cause of the Revolutionary War. He also mentioned that a tax was an important element to understand why American people rebelled against the British. Vrba, Vojtěch, and Pavel Homolka. 2017. "Constitutional Conflict as the Basis for American Revolution." Journal On European History Of Law 8, no. 1: 142. Complementary Index, EBSCOhost (accessed September 2, 2018). The authors of the article explained how a taxation worked in both Britain and its colonies. They also discussed whether a taxation, imposed by the Stamp Act in the 1765, was legal and what the rights and obligations of the British and the Americans were at that time.
