The Economy and Poverty in the U.S.
Introduction
Economic growth determines the level of poverty and quality of life among people,
especially in developing countries. It is a powerful instrument that fastens the progress of the
country in achieving developmental goals. Besides, robust growth contributes to employment
opportunities that provide incentives for advancing human development, thereby reducing
poverty (Imran, Hosen & Chowdhury, 2018). Strong economic growth in the United States
was attributed to expanding consumer markets, technological innovation, wages and benefits,
productivity. Poverty Reduction results in a healthy economy characterized by jobs,
improved income, an increased number of people responsible for purchasing goods and
services. Such factors raise average living standards and improve economic growth. High
poverty in the United States has social and political consequences, including social disorder
and crimes and unequal distribution of resources.
Social Stratification
Social stratification includes social and economic institutions that contribute to
inequality and poverty. Here, inequalities form a prominent feature that is causing poverty in

represents workers. The capitalists exploit the proletariat by keeping and maintaining the
surplus value generated by the work done. This practice affects the economic processes in
different ways. For instance, economic inequality influences income distribution that affects
individuals' living standards, especially the low-income earners (Imran, Hosen &
Chowdhury, 2018). On the same note, economic growth is an absolute determinant of

function of changes influenced by labor supply, capital, human investment, the advancement
of technology through innovations. Due to income disparities, the country may experience
poor income mobility and opportunity creating macroeconomic imbalance and suboptimal
distribution or allocation of human resources (Imran, Hosen & Chowdhury, 2018). Such
issues lead to social crimes, economic instability, and political fallout. The research confirms
other causes of poverty, including racial discrimination, unaffordable housing, low
educational achievement, lack of access to essential needs, poor health, and poor nutritional
outcomes.
Racial Discrimination
The research has confirmed persistent differences in health status based on racial and
ethnic groups among whites and blacks. It has revealed that blacks consistently experience
lower life expectancy compared to whites. Besides, the cumulative prejudice and
discrimination have significantly contributed to health differences leading to psychological
distress. Racial ...
